Why so small units? Why we cannot have 400 soldiers in unit like in darthmod... I see from screenshots that max soldiers in unit is 120 again...![]()

Ehum, it was 160 last time. But I agree, there should be an option to have even more dudes per unit included out of the box, but then again if the pathing is bad....
Because not many people can support that amount of troops
Because it's easily rectifiable by mods
Because I, like many, don't like 400 per unit, as it is ungainly, hard to control, impossible to work around maps designed for 120 max, and, quite frankly, stupid-looking
No really, small battles with regiments of 120 men in Napoleonic war is looking stupid! One regiment of line infantry consisted then of around 1.200 men.
But yeah, it will take a long time before gaming pc's can handle that, maybe not so far in the future with cloud computing?
Yes, the maximum number of units this time is 160.
The reason they do not allow for a "MEGAHUGE" setting, is that playing with 12000 men on the battlefield, with graphics turned to maximum, is impossible for most computers (not mine, yay).
CA would therefore face a lot of whining about the graphics engine not being very good.
I like the Darthmod amount of troops quite some. Initially I was worried how to manouver these but a few battles let you see how much more fun you get from this and how this approaches more realistic levels of troop amounts (and later corpses on the field).

If you go to Empire's scripting files you can change the unit multiplier from 1 to whatever you want, although units 5 times their original size are very unwieldy. If you want to retain compatibility for multiplayer this is probably the best way, and I don't see why they would change it for Napoleon.
Although General Graham's method also works. Good show old chap!
If you rep me, leave your name. I'll look more kindly on your future transgressions.
I have Intel i7 920 and GeForce 260GTX... In darthmod i have no problem with 20 000 soldiers on the battlefield... So i want more soldiers, game is more realistic with more troops... 160 soldiers is really small...

minority? most people who are into computer games have good computers dude. it would make sense, wouldnt it?....i only have a core 2 duo with a 1 gig 9800gtx and i can play easily with 300 man units with full smoke and blood mod. on ultra tex and detail. these people who are showing screenies of NTW on low settings with no grass and washed out textures must be trying to play TW with bargain basement Sears and Roebuck computers, cmon get a job!

I always play with units between 500-1000 men, changing it by the script. I play always with 30000-40000 men. Battery cannons between 8 up to 20 cannons. I hope it will be as easy o modify in NTW
yeh im good at about 300 men, i wish i could change artillery to 8-20 while keeping men at 300. dmuc is a great mod but id love to see the artillery as deadly as in A proper Empire TI. and be able to change units from 225 to whatever i want. i must say having 8-10 batteries of 24 pndr howitzers on explosive shot is murder in dmuc, but cannons are a bit weak.

Freedom is the distance between church and state.
Provided NTW comes with the same preferreces file that ETW did, making all units much larger is as simple as editing a single line.
But, we'll have to wait and see.

I could never play like that, much harder for me to micro my troops well. I play on normal troop size in E:TW and large in the rest.
currently Les Grognards supports upwards of 50,000 men rendered during the battles, but it is at a sore loss for graphic quality, but what is lacked here is made up for in authenticity of presentation and tactics on a grand scale.so the question comes to what is more important cinematic presentation or strategic depth??I am thinking it is some time off before we have both
I fear you are correct. CA has not actually increased the number of units per battle since RTW, in truth, as it stands in vanilla, ETW actually renders fewer soldiers per battle. In RTW, the largest units had 240 men ber unit, in ETW, the largest unit currently has 200. Meaning the largest army one could field in RTW was 4800 men, in ETW, the largest army one can field is 4000 men. And whereas 240 men units were fairly common in RTW, 200 man units are quite rare in ETW, meaning battles, on the whole, are considerably smaller.
Go figure.![]()
