The tour of the map (the one during the opening adviser speech) really puts the stretched out map's true size into perspective. Loving that.

OH GOD look at 1:17, units firing even tough some soldiers are still moving! FINALLY!
The extra development time will allow us to finalize and polish Empire, making it the most accomplished and epic of the Total War series." said Kieran Brigden, Studio Communications Manager at The Creative Assembly. It should be obvious that whichever review stresses enough good and bad points in critical manner (due after ETW) is the one to lend most ear to. But you'll still get La De Da's review, so be patient.![]()

I'm guessing the passive AI thing is because coalition members still don't do much against their common enemy, same as in ETW.
What they really need is a way for coalitions to coordinate their attacks on one point. IMO the crusade model from M2TW could really work well here. For example as France you could be in serious trouble if GB calls a "crusade" against you inviting all their friends to send a spare stack or two. Now that would've been a nice simulation of Leipzig or Waterloo, where Nappy takes on armies from all across Europe.
I am optimistic for land battle but very pessimistic for naval battle, it seems again very boring. Lancers still don't charge or don't use their lance well.
I enjoyed naval battles in ETW but I could never understand why all the major mods made it even s l o w e r. In a mod that shall remain nameless (though its the same for all of them it seems) I had a battle of like 4v4, and these were early ships so they're the "fast" ones, and it lasted over 45 minutes.
As AVGN would say: WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?!?!?
.
A case of one person thinking solely from HIS own limited point of view again. You`re the kind of person who`d say, "I just can`t imagine that there`s anyone in the world without internet!" Right?
Well, I actually ENJOYED the slower speeds. I like REALISM and I was much more able to ponder and strategise my ship battles as the real Admirals would`ve done. I even think it helps the AI. Also, if nothing much is happening, I just hit the SPEED UP button then get back to it when my ships are in shooting range.
I like the `roleplay` it and feel what it must have been like.
When I buy an authentic 18th century wargame, I WANt an authentic 18th century wargame!
Excellent, I am looking forward to the narrative type of gameplay, but as Kerian said, the narrative mode is the main, but when you start a campaign, you can choose whether to do the story line, or just full out european domination anyway you want, which this review didn't mention!
Some nice new gameplay footage too! +rep!

''The multiplayer battles are long and protracted''
Good, I like it that way, it isn't epic if you just line up your units fire 5 volleys and you win, long and protracted is good, allows for strategy and all that, secretive diversionary movements etc and not just bang bang dead.
