    If:

    Empire = Revolution

    and

    Napoleon = Evolution

    Does this mean the next total war will be built on an entirely new engine?
    According to the Theory of War, which teaches that the best way to avoid the inconvenience of war is to pursue it away from your own country, it is more sensible for us to fight our notorious enemy in his own realm, with the joint power of our allies, than it is to wait for him at our own doors.

    Normally, yes. However, touting N:TW as a "whole game" while it really is just an expansion sort of throws the system they've used this far out of whack.

    I wouldnt be surprised to see an entirely new game out in less than two years with an essentially upgraded ETW / NTW engine.

    well this engine was built for gunpowder so they might do Victoria total war or colonization total war since they have gunpowder

    Yeah, i see NTW as an expansion (calling it a new game is merely for money grabbing purposes), which means that we still have an evolutionary game to go. Which means gunpowder. Unless they go back in time, what it is will depend a bit on scope.

    A broad scope would probably mean the Victorian era, a tighter focus could for example be the American Civil War. I dont see the Crimean war, etc as too likely as its geographically too small for being the focus of a TW game. Then again, hey. Nappy got his own full game, so who knows what CA manages to cook up, hehe..

    the empire/napoleon engine is clearly MELEE based, and in no way would i like to see a ww2 or modern total war, the series should stay where it belongs

    if there they attempted a ww2 game it would be a blob of inf in the middle and tanks running around the flanks, think about it.

    the ai hasnt changed much since shogun

    Im hoping for rome. that way they won't have set a standard as a gunpowder game. Plus... It's Rome! ya gotta love it!

    No, Shogun was set after it's successor as was Medieval.

    CA is sick of making games, from here on they intend on modding Empire for PROFIT.

    CA acctualy never said NTW was a full game, they said a standalone expansion. So maybe we will see this engine re-used?

    What the series needs is not a new engine but some gameplay revolutions like line of sight in battles, a BAI that is based on formations, and stronger RPG aspect when it comes to rulers and generals.
