From what I understand, there are 3 scripted campaigns where you play the role of napoleon:

Campaign with story driven objectives with cutscenes and an ending linked to history:
    - Italy.
    - Egypt.
    - Europe as France.

Then there is "campaign of the coalition" which is not story driven but free:
    - Europe as Austria, GB, Prussia or Russia.

My question is: is it possible to play a grand campaign with France without being restricted by cutscenes and fixed objectives?

I know it's possible if you play a 2 player campaign obviously, but what if you just want to play a GC alone in Europe as France?

Europe as France is kinda the same as Campaign of the coalition.
though before you can play that you need to have done italy and egypt

Wow you people are really fixated with that "story mode" phrase. I think they've stated many times that you'll be free to do whatever you want in the Euro campaign as French. And even in the first two you're not forced to complete all the objectives they give you, it's not as strict and limited as RtI in ETW.

Ahhh but that is not the issue what matters is the AI

Will the AI play in a dynamic mode or a scripted mode. Of course the player can do what they want with armies and they AI should respond accordingly but diplomatically will the AI respond intelligently to for example a peaceful Napoleon.

If I had to make an educated guess based on ETW and previous Total War games I would say the diplomatic system will be as weak as water and you will be quickly fighting everybody for the start of both campaigns with the added risk that in the 4th campaign the AI may ignore the player and concentrate on the French AI as its number one enemy.

Ahhh but you assume that story mode implies the AI is scripted, which is not the case. Again, look at RtI. The fourth campaign of US still counts as story mode but there weren't any scripted AI or strict limitations. You could practically do anything you want, just like any other grand campaign. So why would you assume it'll be different in NTW?

Because I find it strange that you have no option to play as France in the 4th campaign, there should be no real reason why you could not play as France again if you wanted to.

I am curious why this would be the case and slightly apprehensive that the reason for this is that the French AI will have an aggressive stance towards the coalition regardless of the strategic situation.

So not really scripted but not fully open either, anyhow we will see soon enough when people start posting their impressions.

In "Mastery of Europe" (the third stage of "Story-mode") you will be offered historical objectives as missions, but you're under zero obligation to complete any of them. In Empire, they gave you a mission to take certain Indian settlements, and then your New World protectorates would be automatically handed over - but you didn't "lose" if you chose not to accomplish those goals. I suspect you'll get missions such as "Take Moscow"; if you take Moscow, you'll be rewarded in some way. If you don't take Moscow, then you don't take Moscow - and you won't be penalized for it - that's the key.

    Hi guys
Will the game affect the ETW grand campaign ,So let us to play since 1700 all through 1815(and hopefully beyond) with access to the weapons and technology of the Napoleonic age?

Thanks and sorry for a little off topic :p

I think when you play the GC, you'll have the option to choose either a stricter narrative campaign, or a completely free domination campaign of olde!

That would make sense. Otherwise, I have no idea what "Historical" game would imply
