Title pretty much explains it, was wondering if any other members shared an interest in this genre of music. The new (Fleet Foxes) the old (Bob Dylan) and the ancient (You Are My Sunshine), all deserve some appreciation and discussion. So share your favorite artists, songs, and anything folk.

You're going to have to clarify what you mean by folk music, because the term is thrown around very loosely, often just to describe what is actually a genre within popular music. I understand you're talking about a very wide range of musical traditions, so you don't have to describe the genre in specific terms, but it would help to be more clear about what it is that connects all that music together.

Folk music as in what God with his epic taste in music posted or this?

(the first two are folk-ish but more country blues, still deal with current and relevant social issues so it can be considered "folk" in a way)

    ( ^^ I LOVE this band!)

Thats just it im a little unsure myself, im new to the genre and am still limited in terms of understandin what defines the genre, right now im mainly associating it with the sound, but The Guy mentioned social issues as a part of folk. Something to me that has been prevalent but not necessary in folk music. So this thread might be a lesson in what it means to be folk, and who epitomizes it. By the way, i have enjoyed all the music that has been posted here so far

If folk music means mostly acoustic and non-mainstream instruments and unconventional vocals then I think I like it. Social issues could apply to. If artists like Andrew Bird http://www.last.fm/music/Andrew+Bird and Beirut http://www.last.fm/music/Beirut can be included in that, then I really like it.
