I'm on an Egypt campaign and am finding it impossible to expand further. The Brutii keep sending their armies at Byzantium (almost one every turn) and I'm beating them back with ease. However they keep having more and more and more troops to send so my army is tied up in that region. The Scipii are doing the same thing in northern Africa.

What should I do?

Around what year should I expect that to happen?

And yeah, Greece is almost completely undefended so I can seize it if I build a competent navy. Which I will.

Time to put my cities to work!

... Dammit, my best general (max stars) just got killed by artillery in Byzantium. He used to be Greek but after bribing him he quickly became awesome, even being called the Honest.

yea if you let the romans expand too much they get almost unstoppable.

ok, for the brutti, keep them occupied near byzantium, and send a navel invasion at greece. If you can eathier kill a bunch of armies and really mess them up it will help, but the goal would be to take the whole peninsula. In my experiance that should take away a great deal of their economy and a war on two fronts should be unsustanable for them.

For the scipii try and launch navel invasion of sicily, then jump down to carthage (if you dont own that tarritory). If you do control All of north africa, cut the head off the beast and eathier blockade italy and destroy all navies or invade italy and take capua. If you go into italy take the brutti towns to, and if you really hate them you can go from italy into greece (if they still own it, if not north of greece)and start a three front war for them and take a bunch of undefended towns.

although my stratagy only works if you have a great economy, and you might only be able to do one at a time.

I second empr guy. If you control the greater Mediterranean / coastlines you will probably end up sinking between 4,000 and 8,000 troops a turn. Stupid Romans.

Unless your economy's in the dumps, I recommend building up an army in Asia Minor and the Nile Delta. Send the Asia Minor army to Greece, and the Delta army to Sicily, all the while holding the Scipii and Brutii wherever it is they're determined to take.

One new army per theater ought to work, but two each might help divide them up.

I didn't think the AI started the civil war? its never happened to me?

no the Ai will eventually start the civil war, but there slow so the player usually starts it. Or some of the romans will get killed by the player and i think that makes them avoid the war.

, could i pay one of the roman factions to attack another and start the war sooner?, this would be useful in the armenian campaign i'm playing.

Of course you can't pay them into it. Remember that there is a certain requirment for them to start a civil war? They have to have enough territories(like say 30) to have enough mob approval to start the war.

That happened to me! I was Egypt and I took Byzantium, Tylis, and Athens. I had a good force in Byzantium but the Brutii kept attacking with a massive army with a gazillion artilerey units almost every turn! But the AI Scipii are to stupid to make it of Sicily.
