Sarmatians

Thought I'd give the Sarmatians a try (on VH/H) since I usually play the Greeks and Romans. Going from a heavy infantry faction to a cavalry based one is interesting.

Every battle I have played with the Sarmatians has been a heroic victory. I haven't gotten much passed my starting areas but it just seems like barbarian horse archers>everything else (cept maybe elephants).

I'm sure it's probably different against people like the Greeks though (they just don't die from missile fire). Right now though it seems like the Sarmatians are complete ownage.

Anyone else have experience playing the Sarmatians?

It almost doesn't seem fair lol. Just surround them and watch the enemy drop like flies from the barrage of arrows. I think my soldiers are more at risk from friendly fire than they are the enemy.

haha thnx guys, it was burried in the post your empires thread. But yeah HA > everything. Though they have good infantry too.

So I could compose infantry armies as well, when the HA's get boring

well the Sarmatians are probably the most powerfull faction in the game due to HA and and very strong infantry on par with gallic inf.
its just that there starting isnt as intresting as others but from my experence once you start expanding into seleucids and western europe it starts getting interesting.
on a military point keep HA's down as you might get really bored with it quite quickly.

One tip, don't use armies full of horse archers, i've had a sarmatian campaign once, and 5000 horse archers + the enemy's armie and the small RTW battlemap don't go well together. I tend to use groups of max 8 units of horse archers . But it really is one of the easiest factions . And certainly fun.

I guess it was a blitz campaign? After 10 turns of waiting I got tired and started expanding. Also you know you'll win every battle with the armies that you have so that helps too I guess

yeah, and sieges are so easy :p, just park 5-6 HA's at your enemy's gates and you're almost certain you've a new city ;p

Tesla how did you manage that by that date? I have yet to expand past the Alps or Sicily in my Roman campaign and its almost the same date!

They are probably the easiest HA faction actually. I mean, HA units of 240 men? Even the Parthians don't field such units!

Does anyone know if the archers/horse archers will be of the same standard in RS2? Because in RS1 they were really effective and I liked that a lot
