Default Empire Total War 1680X1050 Radeon 5870

Has anybody played ETW on a 22' screen at 1680x1050 with a ATI 5870 card ? If so how smooth is the gameplay on high and ultra settings. I am building a new computer and am waiting for my 5870 graphics card to arrive from newegg.

    , Cheers

If by chance you meant a 22" screen.... then it should max the game out no problem, if the resolution were 1920x1200 then it wouldn't quite cut it. But ya, no worries.

It would max a 22 foot 1680x1050 as well, so its not if...then..., it simply is.

Not saying it wouldn't. Just saying it doesn't matter what the size is, its the resolution that matters.

My 5850 plays it on Ultra at 60 frames per second on a 28" monitor on some odd resolution of 1770 x 1080 or something like that.

It actually looks better than playing at the native 1920 x 1200 with some of the shadows turned down to get the same frame rate.

For whatever reason when I try that resolution, the corners of the screen get cut off. And if you try to change it in the display menu in windows to that the screen shakes uncontrollably.

The graphics and frame rate are great on the 17XX resolution. On the 1920 x 1200 the movies have a tear going through them. I have the latest drivers too.

Interesting, that's certainly not a standard res.

I think we have similar systems, possibly the exact same monitor.

What settings do you play at? Both resolution and type, Ultra, etc.

You should be perfectly fine. I have a 5770 and a Phenom II X3, neither overclocked or anything. I run empire without any issues with all settings on ultra, just a few details turned off like SSAO. This is on a 21.5" 1920x1080 screen.
