Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4P Motherboard Supports USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0 as well as crossfire giving you the option of adding a second card in the future. This board offers you the most upgrade options with the newest USB/SATA features for the lowest price. $185

intel i5-750 CPU Performs nearly as well as the i7-920 which costs an extra 100 dollars more. $195

Corsair 750 watt PSU This would be my personal choice, I have both 400 and 1000 watt Corsair PSU's, they have excellent build quality along with nearly silent fans and a 5 year manufacturer warranty, this is a power supply you can use on this as well as future rigs, buying a better PSU now saves money in the long run (especially if you go crossfire later) $110 after MIR There are cheaper option but as I said, this would be my personal choice for long-term use.

G.Skill 4GB DDR3 1600 RAM The price is outrageous as is all RAM lately This same RAM was 85 dollars a few months ago. $115

XFX 5850 graphics card Performs nearly as well as the 5870 which costs considerably more. $340

500GB HDD 7200RPM and 32MB cache, very fast and quiet. $70

As far as OS you can either pay $105 for the OEM copy which can only be used on one computer (tied to motherboard) or spend $180 on the retail copy which lets you use it on future builds. I bought the retail version as it is more cost effective in the long run.

This leaves you with $200+ (depending on your OS choice) to spend on the case and CD/DVD drive of your choice.

What is the best Motherboard available right now on sale?

intel i5-750 CPU Performs nearly as well as the i7-920 which costs an extra 100 dollars more. $195
If I was to get the i7-920....Would the 100 dollars be well spent ?

Approved as its ur personal choice

Does the amount of Mb or GB matter when it comes to video games?
Like If.... I had 8gb of ram...
    Would a game work better?
Or would It perform as a 4gb too?

XFX 5850 graphics card Performs nearly as well as the 5870 which costs considerably more. $340
5870 = 409$ ... Id prolly get the later one better

Thats a great system you prepared

What would you rate it in a scale of 1 to 10?

You mean the best motherboard you could possibly buy? That would be this board for $470... lol. Twas designed for SLI rather than Crossfire though.

I bought my i7 before i5's were released so I didn't really have a choice back then, If you go with an i7 CPU then you have to go with an X58 motherboard which will cost more than the i5 p55 motherboards. The x58 motherboards do have better bandwidths for the PCI-E slots.

If you did want to go with an i7 platform then I would go with the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R motherboard for $210 the i7-920 for $289 and 6GB DDR3 1600 RAM for $165. All X58 motherboard use triple channel memory so you have to either go with 3GB, 6GB, 12GB sets. The actual FPS that you would gain going with the i7 X58 platform over the i5 p55 platform would be minimal at best. But it is a better platform to work with as far as future upgrade options.

I have 6GB and the highest RAM useage I've seen while playing a game (ETW) was 3.5GB in use. So I see no need to spend another $100+ to get 4 more GB. You could always add RAM later if you see a reason to.

5870 = 409$ ... Id prolly get the later one better

    Up to you.

Id rather spend 65 more bucks for a retail copy for future uses

    Good choice.

How well this rig will perform while gaming will depend on your screen resolution and the game you are playing so there isn't any way to "rate" it accurately in comparison to others rigs.

That's a good build if you plan on overclocking I would advise to get a better HSF then the Intel Stock cooler. There are lots of really good coolers these days but 5 of the best inculde the Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme, Prolimatech Megahalems, Thermolab BARAM, Titan TTC-NK85TZ and the Xigmatek HDT-S1283. There is another German based company called Alpenföhn that makes really good HSF's but I don't think there available in America yet but keep an eye for them.

The only thing I would change on that build is the hard drive, I would replace it with the SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 which is the fastest 7200 RPM SATA drive on the market.

Well a month ago for $1500 I got

    EVGA X58 LE mobo
6 GB DDR 3 Corsair Dominator
    Corsair 850W PSU
    Coolmaster v8 liquid cooling
    i7 920 and I OC'd it to 3.3
    Coolmaster 922 Case

He could go i7 860 though, pretty much the i7 920 on the LGA 1156 platform.

True, but you lose tri-channel memory and the superior X58 chipset. Either way the i7-920 or i7-860 doesn't boost game performance more than 2 FPS or so over the i5-750. Source

Tri-channel doesn't really offer any benefits over dual channel, and you only need X58 if your into heavy crossfiring/sli.

If your not interested in having a multiple video card crossfire setup (even in the future) you could save quite a bit of money and get the Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 P55 board instead. Whilst it doesn't have USB 3 or SATA 6 it's one of the most overclockable motherboards on the market.

I can just about get you a faster system then Core i5/XFX 5850 combo but it uses all your budget and the OS is OEM not retail but you should give this some serious consideration.

    CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 810
    Motherboard - GIGABYTE GA-770TA-UD3
Video Card - SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5970
    Ram - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB)
Case - COOLER MASTER COSMOS S
    PSU - CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W
    Hard Drive - Samsung Spinpoint F3 1Tb
Opitcal Drive - Sony Optiarc 24X DVD/CD Rewritable Drive Black
OS - Windows 7 64bit Home Premium OEM

I would advise you to look at overclocking the CPU on this to get the most out of your video card, it doesn't need to be overkill but pushing this up to 3.2Ghz shouldn't be an issue. The only other problem is the video card is in short supply but ATI's manufacturer have sorted out the production issues and these should be creeping back onto the market.

A 5970 and Phenom 810 is a horrible mismatch. A 5970 is overkill for a single monitor, and the 810 is severely underpowered compared to the GPU. I'd say a better choice would be i5 750 and 5870.

    i5 750
    XFX 5870
    MSI P55-GD45
    G.SKILL 4GB DDR3 1600
    Lancool PC-K62
    Corsair 750TX
    Lite-on 24x
    Samsung Spintpoint F3 1tb
    Windows 7 HP 64-bit Retail

For a total of $1341.91, before taxes.

    AGREED

That would be a CPU bottleneck upon building it.

With a bit overclocking that will clear out any bottleneck and Radeon's typically don't need as much CPU grunt to get the most out of them as Geforce high end cards like the GTX295 does. As for being to much for a single monitor well that's true in most cases but he did say....

I just giving the man what he wants, the most performance for the most demanding games at the highest settings, that rig does just that.

    Edit:

The Phenom II X810 at stock is can keep up with the Core i7 920 in most cases and any minor shortfall can be made up with a touch of overclocking.

It will still bottleneck in a game like ETW.

Put enough men into ETW and it bottle neck any CPU, the trouble there's hasn't really been any detailed study of the performance of different CPU's and clockrates in Total War games other then the small experiment I carried out on M2TW a while ago. I might do that again now I have slightly faster CPU but bloody benchmarking takes up so much time.
