Where is the best place to get a windows 7 disk from? And will i be able to just use the code and not have to re-install everything? Thanks

windows 7 OEM tends to be the cheapest. its windows 7 (legal) but without anything else, its just the OS (not even a paper manual) so its cheap!

Windows 7 RC is different than the final version so you won't be able to simply use a key (unless it tells so, which I doubt)

The cheapest version is OEM for $105, it can only be used with the computer (namely motherboard) you install it on, otherwise the retail version which would be permanently yours to use and re-use goes for $180 (I bought retail as it's the best deal assuming your PC breaks or you build a new system).

Those prices are assuming you live in the US.... should be the same regardless of where you buy it from.

There is no difference in the different editions (Starter to Ultimate) for game compatibility, unless you mean differences between XP, Vista and 7

XP can play every game under the sun but it's limted to DX9 so if you have DX10/11 hardware it's a bit of a waste. If you have a .ac.uk (an academic email address from a University) you buy this, I think you would have to install Windows XP first then you use the upgrade but look that price!

    edit:
I'm not sure how these Student editions work, you should check up on these before buying.

Use Google Shopping to find the cheapest place. At the moment you can pick up Windows 7 Home Premium Full Retail for £71 from Novatech or you can get a OEM version which a bit cheaper but for the sake of a fiver your better of with retail.

Seriously? I've used them a few times and the prices are usually wrong.

Google doesn't always get it right, in the UK it sometimes misses out the VAT which can be annoying but it's as good as any other price comparison site.
