Upgraded Uniform with Unit Rank

Take a brief moment to examine the following diagram



Not the top left Illustrations.. Would It be cool for units that reach a certain rank to be upgraded with the uniform of the 'elite' variety at four stripes or something?

This would not happen mid battle like the BI 'glow' in the night affect at level up.

Would be great if that happened. Except I don't think I've ever had a 4 chevron unit.

I think it would be more interesting if you could promote units with a certain amount of experience to Guards status. That would be a more realistic way of forming elite units, as most (although not all) guards units were either promoted directly from the line/grenadier regiments or formed out of specific units.

What I'd like to see more of is specific unit decorations, a mechanic to allow the capturing of regimental standards, cannons, and so on. Back in the day, a man who captured a units standard was a hero. A great-to-the-somethingth grandfather of mine was awarded the medal of honor in the civil war for the capture of a Confederate cavalry standard, for example.

Agree completely with Swerg... Either that or tap B button rapidly whenever a unit gains a chevron to keep it as it is.

Can't be all that coplicated. You guys remember MTWII. When you upgraded your armor you units look updated too.

Ah, the shiny armored sergeants. How I miss them.

Perhaps instead of upgrading armor and weapons in NTW, it would be possible to build 'officer schools' or 'training camps' where you could upgrade your soldiers training and leadership. A good way to give fresh units an edge against veteran ones and give people something to sink all that late-game money into. And it'd let the 'fancy uniform' thing be integrated.

Although, it's worth pointing out, a lot of states didn't distinguish between 'elite' regiments outside of guard/grenadier status. I know the Russians chiefly kept the same pattern uniform across most of their native regiments, the only difference between line regiments being the color of cuffs/collars (most of the time). Likewise the only really DISTINCTIVE grenadier regiment was the Pavlovski, since they had their mitre caps and all that.

It'd be kind of hard to implement realistically and fairly between all the factions, so I would think that just issuing unit decorations would be the best. Fancy banners for them to carry into battle and all that

Personally, even more than that, I'd like to see customization in cities. If I invade St. Petersburg, I want to see the Winter Palace. If I go to Paris, the Arc De Triumph should be there for me to blast with cannons. It'd be REALLY great if something whereby captured banners and cannon could be displayed in cities as a means of boosting morale were implemented, but that's just kind of a pipe-dream
