Who do you think is more stressed out worrying right now over NTW's release, just 1 week away?

Do you think CA is the more stressed out, wondering if the improvements they've made to address major issues in ETW (eg., CTDs, no naval invasions) will restore the franchise to its formerly adored status?

Or do you think the legions of worshippers the earlier TW games built are more worried whether they will be to able to immerse themselves again as leaders of historical powerhouses?

I am glad it is Napoleon that will be the point of judgement, since in a way, that was the ultimate target of the franchise, the culmination of combat with lines of men shooting arrows, spears or bullets at each other.

Personally, I am cautiously optimistic that NTW will restore CA as the best game developer...ever.

Good luck CA. Sincerely. For your sake and for ours.

    I know I'm worried

But interesting question. A better one would be: Are CA concerned the title will do well, or are they concerned that noone will believe them this time round and sales will plummet?

Im sure that they are somewhat concerned, they would have to be stupid not to be. Their focus should (in my opinion) have been to do everything they could to restore faith, but that doesnt seem to figure very high on their list of priorities (a list that is topped by releasing DLC that should have been included in the original game so they can rake in some more cash).

Ah well, we'll see in a couple of weeks

I'm not stressed, if this game sucks I'll go back to M2TW or ETW DMUC and wait for a good mod to be released untill now I wasn't disappointed by 1 single TW game (I bought Empire when 1.2 was released) since they all offered a fun and long campaign

Personally the more I hear about NTW now, the more conscious of an upcoming disappointment seem apparent.

If I were CA management I would be incredibly stressed. This could be the last throw of the die for them.

It's a game. Yes I want it to be good, but why would anyone get stressed about a game? isn't that counter intuitive for an entertainment product.

Only a few CA employees will be stressing is my guess, those responsible for launch and installing apps etc for the game. No repeat of empire "installing from net rather than CD" annoyance

I would say CA are more stressed right now. Interestingly when I look back at some podcasts for ETW just before release, some of CA staff looked particularly stressed out then. I thought it was maybe they were so tired from work, but now I wonder if it was because they knew that Empire was going to be released in a bad state?

Humble, have you seen any podcasts about NTW? just wondering if they looked any more relaxed or nervous.

It has to be CA unless they're completely blind and oblivious to how ETW affected the opinions of them. If they truly value their skins they will hope to God NTW fills the giant hole of a gap between them and their heavily-disappointed fans.

If they don't deliver in a week, I can say that the future will look bleak for them.

You guys think that because a few Total War geeks on TWC started complaining about their recent releases that the CA guys are stressed out about maintaining their reputations?

I think not. - The recent Total War games have been huge successes in the gaming markets and been in the top 10 selling PC games in the world implying alot of sales. - I hardly think CA is stressed, they've just finished another game and are ready to let Sega market and release it. They were probably more stressed whilst making the game.

A few geeks, that's really nice to say.

However the thing is, only stupid people don't worry about their product reputation. Want to know why ETW sold so much? Lot's of hype, and lot's of people thinking "Huh, Shogun, Medieval, Rome, and Medieval II were all great games, why should Empire be any different?". All based on reputation.

But think, how many people are not going to buy NTW on release or at all now after Empire? People are going to be more cautious, they won't buy at release, and people won't buy it if they still hear NTW is a bad game. So CA should really worry about it, they're sales depend on their reputation.

There is a difference between sales, and quality. ETW had lots of sales, but as you can see anywhere, it was the worst TW game to date.

I believe with Napoleon, the company has bit off more than they can chew. The huge and well-known battles of the period should have given them pause, i.e. a need to rethink the TW system to do the era justice. The best possible outcome for NTW is to have a decent, fun little game that works...I wish them well.

If by "grognard" you mean veteran wargamer I agree that veteran wargamers would like to see a core degree of realism in NTW. Of course many many folks -- half? -- that will buy or consider buying NTW are veteran wargamers. After all, why would someone buy a game about Napoleon when they can buy many other military computer games on the market right now, like Call of Duty, Operation Flashpoint, Empire, et.al. Please feel free to clarify your point of view.

hehe, yeah. The battle of Waterloo, with its 250k or so soldiers (counting the Prussians) would be a tad anticlimatic with 3k from each side

I'd say CA is pretty stressed as any game developer would be following a not so stellar game. I'm not stressed at all...just looking forward to the release and I'll keep my fingers crossed it will be a good one.
