I just tested my upload three times: no problems there. Suggest you download the file again and then extract it into the mods folder.

I uploaded an updated version yesterday to MediaFire. What version of Geomod are you using? The latest is 6.18

Great! Thanks gigantus!
Hi Gigantus, I am trying to alter the VOA mod with Geomod (after moving and translating it to the main folder where geomod can get to it) and run into this error after manually correcting what you said:
12:32:41.595 [system.rpt] [always] CPU: SSE2

Expected campaign or battle map type.
Here is the first few lines of my descr_strat file:
; Campaign file, generated by Geomod
campaign imperial_campaign
playable
sicily
milan
scotland
anduin
moors
turks
egypt
mongols
england
france
hre
spain
venice
end
unlockable
end
nonplayable
papal_states
slave
end
It doesn't crash right away. I get the loading screen, chose single player, chose Third Age Campaign and the a message appears asking me to " chose an item from the list"
Any ideas?
Sorry, The Vale of Anduin mod which I had moved to the imperial_campaign folder. I had to change the config file but it was launching and running fine until I tried to mod the map a little with Geomod. The crash message of 12:33:07.122 [script.err] [error] Script Error in mods/Third_Age/data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign/descr_strat.txt, at line 1, column 1
Expected campaign or battle map type.
makes me think the Geomod is classifying it as a battle map?
I have a general question. Is the general way to use the map to use geomod on it and then copy and paste OR replace the files of my Third_Age folder (after I safely copied it)??
if you are using geo-mod correctly you have move no files manually! Geo-mod works with the folder itself that is why you need certain files
1. The descr_strat might point to the wrong folder. Check the top entry: "campaign imperial_campaign"
2. The easiest way for testing would be to make a backup of your Third Age files that Geomod modifies and then work on the originals in the working mod.
Files used by Geomod - asterix (*) shows files that are modified when you save your work:
* data\world\maps\base\map_climates.tga
* data\world\maps\base\map_ground_types.tga
* data\world\maps\base\map_heights.tga

This file is not properly generated by Geomod and cause a long delay at game start.
To rectify you should download the StringBin Converter (requires Python 2.6) and extract the converter into the data\text folder.
Click 'convert_all' to get updated txt files, which in turn will generate new string.bin files, solving the problem.
Thanks Gigantus for the info. I did relabel the desc_strat folder when I moved it (or it wouldn't have worked before my modding)
Are ALL the files that Geomod works on in Third_Age/data?
The reason I ask is after Geomod I never have found the "data/text/historic_events.txt.strings.bin" to be modified when I use Geomod and can't find the new copy you ask to delete.
THANK YOU for listing the files as I can replace them one by one to find where the problem is.
Sorry, I have another question about the last comment:

The Geomod Program came with a BinEditor program. If I use this and save will it convert the text files?
Also if I use the StringBin Converter should I do it after I modify the files with Geomod?
The BinEditor from Geomod is a bit clumsy for this matter - but it might work. do the conversion AFTER you have saved your work with Geomod.
Files missing for use with Geomod can be found in the sub directories here: ...\Medieval II Total War\tools\Geomod\M2TW_files
I narrowed the problem down to the data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_strat.txt file
I wish Vale of Anduin had just modified the imperial file as I can't tell if there is somewhere that it is still Vale of Anduin.
Is it important to change the order of the towns in this file so your capitals come first? Can you do this (carefully) by hand. If you don't do you just have new capitals or will it not run???
In descr_strat the first settlement entry of a faction will be it's capital. The entry starts with
settlement
{
level huge_city
region region_name
and ends with
{
type tree_name building_name
}
}
You could do a CUT and PASTE with a settlement within a faction's list of settlement. Doing that from one faction to another will involve one more step: making sure that the garrison of that city also gets transferred to the other faction. for that you will need the co-ordinates of that city.
That can be achieved by putting your cursor on that city, pulling down the console ( press ~ ) and enter show_cursorstat. Note down the co-ordinates and search for it in the descr_strat and move armies and characters with those co-ordinates.
I really want to use Geomod, however I only want to use in a different M2TW Third Age installation not the orignal as I keep this as my back up, is there a way of changing the install program giving you the option of directory, is this possible.
This post further up lists all the files that Geomod uses. Simply make back ups of the files with an asterisk ( * ) and then work directly in the game directory. All other methods are simply too cumbersome.
