I have been thinking.....
Wouldn't it be good if an AI General's traits influenced the way BAI behaves. For example, if the AI general has the trait 'Aggressive Attacker' then the BAI would act in a more aggressive manner (ie: it would be more likely to disregard unit safety in order to advance on your position). By contrast, if a general has the trait 'Prefers to Defend' then the BAI would be more likely to sit on the ridge and wait for you to attack (thus giving you attack initiative). My logic follows thus - if the general is cowardly he won't get close to the front line (thus having a negative impact on his troops morale) - if he is good with infantry/cavalry/artillery, then he will use that those units more effectively - if the general is a good ambusher, then he is more likely to conceal troops on the battlefield - if he has certain ancillaries, such as a veteran gunner or veteran soldier, then these will impact the BAI respectively..........etc etc etc.
This could get interesting in the campaign side of the game. You would really have a purpose to send in spies to investigate opposing generals traits/ancillaries. This would allow you to gather intelligence and develop your tactics based on how the enemy general will most likely fight. This could be really interesting in the following situation.......
'You're outnumbered 3 to 2 by an enemy army - which is blocking your return to friendly territory. However, you know the enemy general has no ancillaries, is cowardly, and prefers to defend. Rather than risk getting weaker through attrition, you attack him because you know that his troop morale will probably be low (cowardly trait), and you'll most likely be able to take the initiative against him (defensive trait).'
Could someone confirm if this, or some aspect thereof, has been built into NTW. If not (and this is my feeling), then CA should seriously consider it for the next TW release. It would make the game a hell of a lot more interesting.![]()
