Default Steam and Drivers make it so hard for me to like this game.

So, I just installed ETW on a fresh install of win7, had to dl the entire 15GB.

Everything seemed fine, the game started np and played a quick land battle.. I shut steam and the next time I open it ETW wont start, just says preparing to launch, stayed there for 30mins.. so I cancel and verify game cache, in which steam deleted 14.5GB of the game and starts updating at 0% wtf.
I check the ETW folder and its only 455mb in size now... I cbf dling another 15GB for this . So I uninstall it, only to find that steam has left everywhere from files in the steam folder to files in app data etc.

Honestly the game is great, but steam sucks balls and I wish someone at CA would get in contact with someone at ATi and sort a driver profile out FFS the game ran fine on crossfire systems prior to cat 9.7 approx 8 months ago but it has been broken ever since, crossfire doesnt work correctly and AA doesnt work with volumetic effects and SSAO enabled, and AAA has never worked correctly, wtf.. I understand it's upto ATi but if CA was at all concerned I'm sure they could get the ball rolling, I mean their customers cant even play the game properly on common hardware. Has anyone at CA even tested ETW or the upcoming NTW on ATi systems??

I'm pretty much fed up with this game and will not reinstall it, I'm hoping NTW will be a little better, but I wont hold my breath.

    first thing.

after downloading a game, ALWAYS back it up. maybe even before playing it.

secondly, just run an advanced uninstaller (can't think of one atm) if you're that desperate to get rid of the remnants of the game.

thirdly, if a game hangs on 'preparing to launch' then you don't have to wait for 30 mins. if it doesn't launch after a bit (2 mins, say), hit cancel and try launching again.

sorry you had such a bad time, but not all of it is due to the game. for example, the drivers for the 58xx's are still not great right now (artifacts, etc): did you install the 10.1 hotfix drivers?

my eternal thanks to the EB team for making R:TW such an epic game, and to TWC and all other modders for pushing the boundaries with each Total War title .

A good software "uninstaller" that I use is Revo.
