It got annoying in ETW when you had to watch over multiple theatres and the turns times were long. It seems people keep moaning about how you're stuck in Europe. for this game, but I actually think it's a blessing.

I fully agree, the more compact theatre lends to a greater immersion and depth to what is being presented

    I'm a bit divided.

On one hand, I'll miss taking over England as the Marathas and forcing them to grow my tea.

On the other hand, long turn times, trans-theater logistics and all the associated buggery I shall not miss at all.

Maybe just India would've been nice. It would've allowed us to play around with things like "what if Tsar Paul's Indian March had gone through"?

I'm glad it's only Europe. If it were the whole world it truly would be Empire with just different units. I, as Napoleon, want to fight continental wars not a war for Trinidad and Tobago from the annoying Pirates so they stop disrupting my trade and wasting 4 precious turns eliminating them first from the game.

Empire's extra theaters were good fun but I'm really psyched about going back to a more detailed European map. Europe was really the only fun place to fight in Empire for me anyway (America and India being on the "frustrating" side more often than not), and it's just classic Total War. In a way it's like they're going back to their roots.

The size of the map, for me, is truly secondary to AI and content. If the AI is good and the content decent, it's a good game.

I'll miss the colonial theatres, but the added detail in Europe will make up for it. First of all, the scale is increased - but what I'm really talking about is the new attention paid to minor factions in Europe. Catalonia? Brittany? I can only imagine what treats will be hidden in Germany and Eastern Europe.

I don't miss the overseas regions at all. Europe is where the action is at.

While I tend to prefer grand scale campaigns, I suppose the Europe map is more appropriate for a game focused solely on the Napoleonic wars.

I concur. ETW's other theatres could get tedious rather fast. Playing as GB in my first game, I was considerably annoyed at the end of it, that most of my land battles had been with Native Americans and most of my naval battles with pirates. To avoid this I ended up playing as Prussia or Sweden almost exclusively...

The high loading times between the turns were also a significant issue.

I'm with ya, Europe rocks in terms of historical games! plus 1 theatre is much better!

    Napoleon should definitely be europe-only

however i think their next step should be 19th Century with the whole world

I prefer a smaller theater, more immersive, more accuracy.

They were good for what they were. For NTW, Europe only is needed. If they did 'Victoria Total war' I would like the theater system back however.

Hopefully only 1 theater helps the AI make better decisions...

Just europe is fine. In Empire I've never really focused on colonies, europe was always more fun.
And especially with Napoleon I mean... the french only had Louisiana in north amerika which they sold to the US. All other french colonies were taken by the british

Oh, if we don't see some sort of a War of 1812 addition at some point, I'll be staggered. Those Frigate actions and rapid campaigns would fit excellently with the new attrition model. If CA don't do it, it'll make an excellent mod.

I hate it and it is one big reason I'm going to wait some time after release to see if Napoleon is even worth purchasing. What I liked about colonial theaters is that you could win a campaign without having to eliminate half of the European factions. I would often play Empire and limit my European expansion to almost nothing. Then when I had a powerful colonial empire I would manipulate the balance of power in Europe without eliminating major factions. In Napoleon the campaign strategy will be much less interesting. Every game will require you to eliminate half of the factions in order to get enough territory to win. One dimensional compared to Empire.

What I think is really going on is an admission by CA that they can't do a CAI that can handle multiple theaters. Sad, considering that the European Universalis series is completely capable of a world CAI.

Actually, I believe a Historical Mode was added, that limits the regions required to win severely - and also make them more or less historical accurate.
