Default What difficulty should I use?

    Hi,

You may have seen my other thread about which faction I wanted to pick for my first time with SS, and I decided on Ireland

Since I've never used this mod before, I don't know what to expect from the different difficulty levels. For the campaign:

I want a GREAT challenge and a very smart AI, but not over aggresive. To me, in the TW series, AI intelligence DOES NOT equal aggresiveness
So I want a smart AI, but not constant invasions and rediculous aggresiveness

    For battle:
I'll admit, I am nowhere near a tactical genius. I don't like it rediculously easy, but I'm really not very good at battles. So I'm deciding between Easy and Medium

    Please help me choose! Thanks!

Pick VH for campaign, easy or medium for battles and you will probably be happy. The SS AI is not very smart (no AI will ever be smart if CA has something to say about it) and also not very agressive, I think. Ireland will have to attack if they are to fight, for no one ever attacks the Irish. And why would they? The Island is poor, you will need to wait ages to build a port and a few more ages to support an army on campaign.

Thanks! And what does RR mean? I've seen it a lot.

RR/RC is a submod of stainless steel that enhances historical realism along many other important things (lots of new units , traits etc.. but also makes major changes in the way the game is played with Byg grim's recruitment etc) , but you will lose the Ireland faction as it was replaced by Timurids though (as RR/RC contains SS 6.2) .

I recommend you to try it just to know about it first hand , it's not sure you will like it , but for me it's the best mod i've tried so far , cheers .

    Oh , about difficulty , with RR/RC , i use normal/hard (i'm a turtler ) , i tried hard/hard , but i found the AI to be too much "all or nothing"

RR means Real Recruitment. It's an excellent submod that ensures that ensures that units won't become available untill their historically correct time. So, no Fullplate or Gunpowder available at the start of the game.

That's Real Recruitment, part of Point Blank's mod which aims to improve the historical accuracy of the mod.

In answer to your original question, the AI is more likely to be aggressive on VH, but its overall intelligence won't really change. I'd recommend M/M for your first game, just because it might hold off the Portuguese from attacking the Emerald Isle for a few turns longer (believe me, they WILL attack you). The battle difficiculty just has stuff to do with the enemy routing quickly, and critical hits, so that one's entirely up to how comfortable you are with fighting battles

    Thanks everyone!

I ended up going with Hard Campaign and Medium battle. Also, when I started my campaign it said there was some supply system thing, and I think I'd rather play without that. How do I get rid of that?

PS dumb question but how do I zoom in with a mouse pad

To get rid of the Supply Traits, you can run the 6.1 installer again, and untick that option. You'll need to restart your campaign though.

I recommend installing the RR/RC Compilation for 6.2, which can be found in my link. It compromises realism with playability. You can find it in my sig where it says "GET IT" or by simply searching the Sub-mods forum Besides that, difficulty is relative to how well you can manage your economy. I play on H/VH or VH/VH but the best way to find what's best for you is by experiencing it.

Hope this was of some help.

And keep in mind that it changes with factions. The Teutonic Order for example is more difficult than, say, Denmark.

I've played as Ireland a number of times, and if you begin in Early Era it can be a pain as for 20 turns or more you have a diplomat standing in the middle of the island with nothing to do, as there are no ports or ships to transport him to those all-important trade agreements.

On difficulty, I've found that moderate difficulty campaigns too easy and VH to be ridiculously aggressive on the ai's part. The Irish eventually will square-off against England whose starting postition generals and troops outclass you. Moderate battles will be tough enough.
