    Default Unit editor for empire?

Since NTW is getting one it thought it might be a good idea to have one for Empire?

Anyone else think this would be a good idea?

Yes, but then NTW may not get one at all, since CA havent delivered multiplayer campaign yet.

    Yes they have...

    And it's a good idea but I don't think it'll happen.

6 months, point taken, but let's stick to the facts.

And I don't think they will delay as much with the uniform editor, but that's just my opinion.

3 months into the game, they will be like. "We decided that the uniform editor will go into the next stand alone game, Colonisation: Total War, it's brand new and stand-alone and it includes all the features NTW and ETW were supposed to have"

Umm, new news from CA about a week ago in a review, that the uniform editor has been finished, and that it will come out about a week after release!

i would like create and research my own units and perhaps edit existing ones then use them in campaign and multiplayer!

i know there would have to be some sort of system for stopping people creating "super units" for use in multiplayer etc...

multiplayer doesnt need a unit editor, the standard units could be used for that.

Would be nice though if you could make several changes to standard units and be able to create some unique regiments of your own, write a background about them and all that. Especially if you could do it in game. That could really create reasons for such regiments to emerge.

Regiments could be named after a general for example, and embody his favorite tactics.

It could also allow players to recreate historical regiments that are not in the game, allowing them to even be raised at the appropriate time and be used against the appropriate enemies.

Each faction could have a selection of generic options for their culture group and a faction specific selection on top of that.

If it was Prussia from Empire total war, they could have the outfits of the death's head hussars amongst their faction specific items.

The unit editor should mostly be used for customization and immersion. It shouldnt remove the weaknesses of factions.

If a faction does not have cuirassiers for example, they shouldnt be able to make them in the editor. Variations of existing units and improved versions of existing units should be possible.

i agree , i think this would help make the game more playable for a lot of people considering how awful and offputting the generic units are....

Definatly, and with this system modders would not need to make reskins anymore either if a color pallete is in the editor. They could still make variations of course and maybe individual pieces such as just a hat, a gundesign or a horse.

I gues all edited parts could come down to this:

-10 face options to choose to be used by the unit. Allows for variation, but the same face could be used for all 10 options for a more uniform look.

-Hat/helmet/hair options. Maybe three or four variations could be selected for the unit.

-body. Several options could be available here as well for variation amongst the unit. Or they could all wear the exact same uniform/armor.

-Weaponry and attachments. Bows come automaticly with quivers, swords come with sheathes And here you could choose between all available guns, swords, shields, axes, etc. All weapons available for the type of unit could be displayed. Melee units could use multible weapon and shield models in a unit, allowing you to create a real ragtag bunch armed with swords, axes and maces all in a single unit. Furthermore stuff like backpacks, Hussar wings, capes and sheathed daggers could be added merely for looks.

-Mount. For most nations this would be limited to just horses, but you could pick the saddle for them and restrict a unit to only use horses of a certain color. For games in older periods you could armor the horses as well or have them with barding. Other nations could also have camels or even elephants.

-Musician. The musician could be optional, several models and instruments could be selected.

-Flagbearer. Same as the musician, optional for the unit and the model could be chosen as well.

-Captain. The captain could be customized like the other units of the group, but could be limited to wielding a sword. He would also have special captain customization options available.

As for creating the units, the player should not be able to play around too much with the status.

You could either simply change the style and name of an existing unit, make elite versions of existing units on the roster, and there could also be a few spots open to create copies of the standard units but with different names and appearances.

Elite versions could be limited to a single unit to prevent spamming.

I think it would be excellent to have it in Empire... That being said, it won't happen

    Not going to happen.

The units are handled different in NTW via one of Kiarans videos. With the abiltity to change out things like hats, belts, medals, swords etc in the unit editor.

The ETW units are pretty much all the same.

I really need to know more of that editor and what it can edit, I didnt want to buy Napoleon because of the hideous uniforms of the period so if I can alter that to something reasonable looking I might get it anyways.

10 face options to choose to be used by the unit. Allows for variation, but the same face could be used for all 10 options for a more uniform look.
Each unit has 64 different faces chosen randomly.
Hat/helmet/hair options. Maybe three or four variations could be selected for the unit.

-body. Several options could be available here as well for variation amongst the unit. Or they could all wear the exact same uniform/armor.
They have already said that you'll be able to select alot of different uniforms and hats.
-Musician. The musician could be optional, several models and instruments could be selected.

-Flagbearer. Same as the musician, optional for the unit and the model could be chosen as well.
These are going to be similar looking to the other units, as in this era they had the same uniform in the whole regiment.
-Weaponry and attachments. Bows come automaticly with quivers, swords come with sheathes And here you could choose between all available guns, swords, shields, axes, etc. All weapons available for the type of unit could be displayed. Melee units could use multible weapon and shield models in a unit, allowing you to create a real ragtag bunch armed with swords, axes and maces all in a single unit. ...do you seriously think you can give line infantry maces, shields and bows?

I have a hint for you Inhuman ! check out reviews, screenshots and.. threads on this forum(napoleon part ofcourse).

I wasnt refering to a specific unit editor, but more to a unit editor for total war games in general.

The unit editor is the only thing about Napoleon Total war that seems interesting, so I havent looked much at info about it yet.
