Deep concern over lack of units

I have been following NTW screens and reviews for some time now and I have had mostly mixed feeling (perhaps tilted towards good expectations). I was actually going to preorder today evening as launch is getting near.

Well that all changed today morning when I read a "Munich presentation" thread and saw the screenshots in the official shogun forum. These sources indicate that there is SEVERE lack of units available in MP.

Only 4 freaking infantry units!


This is also confirmed by these screenshots in Shogun forums:

From these screens you can see that:

1) Sweden has only 4 infantry, 4 cavalry and 4 artillery pieces to chose from in the army building screen
2) Portugal has 5 infanty, __1___ cavalry and 3 artillery pieces

What is going on here? This is not what I want!


Situatin is better with larger nations, it seems that Ottomans, Russia, Prussia, France, England and Austria have more units in roster but still less than in ETW!

What is going on here, am I missing something, is this the situation in the real game?

The pics of the units roster you have seen it's from the beta and not with all the units in it. I was chocked too to see that there we so few units, but more will be available in the full game

Are you totally sure about this, in Munich presentation thread it specifically says:

Even if it's beta I see no guarantees that situation would be somehow better in release? Usually path from beta to release is only bug fixing, no new content (like units). Still I hope so much that I am wrong here.

betas usually only contain a small portion of the game so i hope you are wrong

So do I, or will they do the same as they did in Empire, add more units later?

Better 4 infantry which are different than other nations infantry then 8 clone infantry, but still it's a bit too less

the screens are from the beta, but I fear there wont be any extra units. You can get imperial edition with 20 additional units though

That if fine and dandy for the MP factions that are already decently fleshed out. But there is no extra units for Portugal (One Cav unit???), Spain just two guns, etc...

at least they arnt all clones though... clones are a massive buzz kill

Final version will not have mor eunits, maybe as payed DLC but those roosters are definitely final. They are exact same even on last presentation during last week where was no beta but final product - game is out in 2 weeks, if somebody believes that number of units will be higher then he must be crazy.

To clarify

Pictures are Low-end Graphics + BETA + Multiplayer Custom Battle

Full game will have more units, campaign will have even more and the graphics depend on your computer

I am not negative about NTW, I will buy it and like you hope to enjoy it for long time. However, the full game will almost certainly not have more units than shown here, and the campaign will not have "even more".

Stop posting disinformation! Beta or no beta it does not matter. The unit roster and feature set must have been frozen long LONG ago.

Any developer with half a brain would decide upon a feature set and unit roster at least a month before entering alpha phase (I said ALPHA not BETA, so it happened at least 4-6 months ago). It's not like, weeks from release, someone will say "gee lets add additional 50 units to this game!". It does not work that way. Do you have any idea how much ADDITIONAL testing that would require??

You obviously have never been a beta tester nor a previewer, so trust the ones who were.

The unit rosters we see in the recent threads are 99,99% complete rosters for the final game. Like it or hate it, that's how it is. (Personally I think rosters are fine.)

I have since realised the BETA does not entail a lack of units

However, the MP still has been confirmed to not include all units avaliable in the Grand Campaign

For example, the French alone are missing the Swiss Regiment and Polish Legion in MP

I also think the rosters are fine, and really like the idea of trimmed-down rosters that are vastly different for each country

The "it's a Beta = Not complete" attitude was built up by a lot of the same viewpoint on this forum and I, having no BETA experience (as you correctly assumed) took this for the truth

So yes, that's probably it, but there are definatly MORE units for each country in the GC

But even so, I'm not "vainly hoping", I'm genuinley excited, as I enjoyed ETW despite its faults, and only grew sick of it after a period

NTW seems like it will hold my interest for longer

Nothing like fighting against one cavalry unit and two different infantry WOW. I can hardly wait to fight pushover nations with tiny pathetic armies!

Reading through the Munich thread I saw Mandelus himself has stated that this was not the final release version. So, no need to panic

And you made several people cancel their pre-order(not me though), shame on you!

Lets wait on payed Dlcs, which will appear soon, they will "let" us buy more units if we are not happy with this "huge" unit roosters.....
