Default Netbook cant play Deus Ex on 800x600 smoothly, is this normal?

Got myself a netbook recently and installed some games on it. To my disappointment it can't even handle Dues Ex at 800x600 medium.

Then tested with games like Oni and Jedi Academy, again, both failed to run smoothly 30fps+ on my netbook.

These games were released way before 2001 and the Intel GMA 3150 should be able to handle them.

    Comments anyone?

    Well, it IS a netbook.

    Thats quite bad though.

    • Intel Atom “Pineview” N450 processor
    • 250 GB drive, presumably a hard drive
    • 1GB RAM
    • 10.1″ display
    • Windows 7 Starter

The gma 3150 is about as good as a gma 950 aka not very good, its certainly nowhere near as good as a genuine gma 3100 series chip. From what I have read it has half the processing cores of a standard gma 3100 and they are only clocked at 200mhz, don't get mixed up with gma X3100 which is a significantly more powerfull chip.

Try running it in different compatibility modes (xp i think) and the like. What os are you using? Unless its xp 1 gb of ram isnt realy enough. Dont know if you can upgrade it though. Notbooks are hard enough so netbooks...

Jedi Academy is post-2001, but Deux Ex is pretty old.

But you can't just just apply memory requirements to your OS alone. My tweaked Win7 install uses 300MB of memory, whilst a friends bloated XP install uses 1.5GB on boot, it depends on the drivers, services and the like that third-party applications in general install and run if they are running in the background or not, and what features you have enabled or disabled within Windows.

Thank you for the reply guys.

Just to provide more details, I ran 3DMark 2001 on the netbook and got a score of 2785 marks.

This is definitely better than what I got on my old Athlon 800Mhz with Geforce 2 MX (got a score of 24XX).

Agree that Jedi Academy probably is too new for the GMA 3150 but Duex Ex ran smoothly on my Geforce 2 MX then at the same settings as my netbook.

    Any others experiencing the same?

    Thanks once again.

probably driver related then. you could try messing around with nasty settings or downgrading flash or something but i would recomend it. shame. deus x was a great game if annoying at times
