Factions' advantages and disadvantages:

Austria - the best light infantry and light cavalry. No guard/elite units.

Prussia - good line infantry. Simple and not very strong cavalry

Russia - better in melee and charge. Nice morale. Powerful and unique artillery (unicorns). Diverse choise of cavalry. Bad at shooting across the board. No 125 range units.

France - good-medium in every aspect. The best guard units (Old guard, horse Carabiniers)

Britain - the best shooting and reloading across the board. Weak light calvary. Weaker melee and charge.


3 money options for MP battles - 5000 10000 and 14000

Before the battle, one MUST buy a general. There are 4 generals for each country - 0 stars, 3 stars, 6 stars and 9 stars. The first is generic general. Others are historical persons (9 star general for France is Bonaparte, for Russia Kutuzov, for Britain count Wellington)

Factions have not as many different units as the others: Russia has a lot of cavalry and artillery, ottomans a lot of infantry, Prussia doesn't seem to have as many differents units as the others.

Nice roster, much more diverse than I expected across the board. It's interesting that their roster is AMAZINGLY similar to the one used by the NTW mod team

However, the faction summaries don't quite seem to line up with the stats themselves:

Hmm, interesting. Seems the British aren't all that bad in the melee. In fact, they're better than the French, and they've got better...uh...Oborona than the Russians, while being equal in morale. Don't ask me what oborona is, I only transliterate cyrillic, and probably poorly at that.

Surprise surprise. Looks like the British will be the all-singing, all-dancing, masters of the world. Raise your hand if you didn't see that one coming.

Well I'm seriously hoping that the screenshots are from the beta version considering that they aren't showcasing the alleged 350 units... For starters, where the hell are the French Middle Guard?!

Interestingly, I recall that when Napoleon: Total War was announced I wrote in a forum post that CA should at the very least have the Napoleonic II: Total War roster as their basis. It looks like they did

TWO THINGS

Firstly: The Russians who uploaded these say they're from the BETA, not Gold, m'kay?

Secondly: If you look at the British Naval Units again, the Ironclad is in the far right. It seems it's just a regular wooden ship but with an engine in the middle, like the Steamship in ETW

So this is beta, thank god!
I already thought that some factions had not enough units
I like the unit cards especially for the navy. Also the new ability to choose your general before a MP battle.
And to see a units ability when you have to buy your army is really great, that would help a lot.

But seeing this also makes me want to buy the version with the extra units

yes, but I think it's because there's an early period with units of the french Revolutionnary period and a late period with Empire time period. So 355 units has to be divided between the 11 factions and the 2 periods. We will have mods after and DLC.
When I saw the battle of Lodi yesterday in Paris there were a lot of Austria and french troops in revolutionnary period uniform. So you can't use these units for the next campaigns. There's also specific units for Egypt: there are the french camel troops in red uniform...

Now it is possible to check the unit's info and stats from the army selection menu.

Well this is pretty much confirmed by the Munich thread. Brits have grenadiers but they're not enabled for custom battles for some reason. Who knows what else is disabled for custom battles, so we'll just have to wait to see.

Still, expect fifty "More proof that CA blah blah blah..." posts that ignore all of that.

Multiplayer rosters generally don't have every unit available.

Well, I hope that the cost of the british super duper unit will be appropriate expensive.

There were suppose to be 355 new units but there are to be only around 100 new units. If they make new naval units then it might come up to 140 max. the what about the other units

There does seem to be a noticeable difference in the Guard units. Thankfully it doesn't seem the British have the mighty edge here.

Interestingly, the Russian guard unit is better in melee than the Old Guard, although they have lower morale, if I remember my meter organization and it's the same here. The British guard's are also worse at shooting (slightly) than the Old Guard.


I also notice...*SIGH*...the Pavlovsk Grenadier unit, despite being formed in 1809, well after grenades were out of style...

Curiously, the officer wearing the kiwer style shako is accurate. Officers in the Pavlovsk grenadiers didn't wear the old mitre caps. Hooray for (probably) unintentional historical accuracy!

EDIT:
And they're 90 men vs. 120 for regular regiments.
Points for accuracy neutralized. LESS GRENADES, MORE MEN.

Giving Sweden only four infantry units is a crime against history. Especially when half of their infantry are wearing kiwers.
It's nice to see that the 'minor' factions are playable in skirmish, though.

Sarcasm aside, I believe the standard demonym for Portugal is 'Portuguese'

I strongly suspect that if the other factions are anything to go by you could check the NTW2 unit list for a good idea of what the Ottoman roster is like. That's the mod for RTW, not the as-yet unannounced sequel to Napoleon: Total War.
