Because every time you're playing against someone with the attention span of a goat or the losing-tolerance of a 4 year old.

So they either suddenly feel bored and quit or you start beating the snot out of them and then they quit.

    Cowards, pity they lose nothing.

Not that kind of drop out that's quitting. I am talking about the sudden jump to the main screen. Is it steam?

I have been playing since it came out and find the occasional drop out, maybe once every four or five hours, very tolerable for the great reward of MP campaign. Too bad I have discovered while playing MP campaign that I totally suck. Just got dusted on VH campaign as Austria by Ottomans in about 10 years. That is a serious accomplishment.....I mean it is hard to suck that bad.

I've been spectating some battles lately and it's mostly solid although I did have one game freeze toward the end of the battle yesterday. I could move my camera but nothing else was moving so I quit myself after a minute. I do get the sense that it will happen consistently from time-to-time and I'm just hoping it doesn't happen when I'm fighting a good battle.

It would be worth looking into your internet connection though and make sure you have the best signal before playing. I won't even go near a shaky connection when someone else is hosting.

I play till the end. I play ranked battles and then most of people stay till the end but again some don't.

Do players get a "rankings penalty" if they leave a battle early? If not I believe they should.

Stinks...that was the instance that crossed my mind where I could see that being unfair.
