Default Hellenistic period tombs unearthed by torrential rainfall

Eight tombs dating to the Hellenist Period were partially revealed recently in the region of Gonous, Larissa prefecture, after flooding caused by heavy rainfall swept away a rural dirt road.
The Archaeological Service subsequently conducted an excavation, which brought to light the tombs which, according to initial assessment, date back to between the end of the 4th century BC and the beginning of the 3rd century BC.

Of the eight tombs, only one is intact.

I actually live close by. There was a bit of commotion down here about the find, but not much more than the norm .They find stuff every 2 days down here, everything is built on top of the older settlements.

But did Greeks report on their news channels what they find? Average Italian usually dont care about those kind of things, even if found in their soil and nobody is interested in informing the population about their past or findings related to it. A shame. And then we're in the situation monuments are close to collapsing and Gov doenst destinate money for restoration sourrounded by the general indifference of people. Hope in Greece situation is better than here

They only said they found a few graves, and only one was in a good condition. They mentioned nothing about what was inside, if anything. And it was reported only in newspapers, and even then, not in all of them. No tv channel mentioned anything, as far as i know.

We have the exact same saying here. I mean, look at what we're doing here. We're talking about a couple of near destroyed graves, found in a ditch outside a tiny little village outside an unknown city of Greece. If the net hasn't turned our world into a village, i don't know what ever will.

Bad things' that if you dont inform you population about discoveries related to your nation's cultural heritage, then you're in the situation that the next generation of people (now kids) in the next future cannot find or have the passion for archaeology. And without that, your cultural heritage is destined to die together with the ruins. For now and next 20 years, sites are protected and maintained by this generation of volunteers but then in a future? I remember when joints of Aurelian walls collapsed in Rome and bricks invaded the road, people walking nearby especially the youth didnot stop to see what happened or asked themselves how we came at this situation! they just continued to walk in the full indifference like if 2000 yo bricks built by the ancestors had nothing to do with them. The government is the first one without the will to protect or inform about historical monuments and artifacts. Italy has the highest % of Unesco patrimony in the world and destines just the 0,3% of his national budget to cultural heritage. Museums are all in hands of privateers because the State doesnt want to keep their cost up on their shoulders. A collapsing Colosseum time ago saved by the charity of Japanese Government and Jap volunteer organizations, while Berlusconi just asked for international funds like he was doing a pass-the-buck game. And mental division of Italians doesnt help to maintain pre-medieval things.. do you think that Venetians led by the glory Serenissima for 1000 years are interesting in something "provincial" or labelled as a "just Roman people businessess"? Venetians just makes fests to remember Serenissima or whatever linked to it, Florentines and Tuscanians in general are attracted just by their Medieval age etc. etc. etc.
Around if you come in Italy, you'll find millions of town festivals related just to the Medieval events like palio or whatever. No ancient Roman or Etruscan celebrations at all! of course apart in the city of Rome. Italians are not just Serenissima or Pope or Medieval fanboys or whatever! Italians are Phoenicians, Etruscans, Romans, Arabs, Greeks, Normans, Galli, Germanians etc. etc. etc.

    Our ancestors deserves more respect

Any paintings from the Tombs, or artifacts like jewelry or sculpture worth posting?

the tranquility of servitude greater than
the animating contest for freedom, go
home from us in peace. We seek not
your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch
down and lick the hand that feeds you,
and may posterity forget that ye were
    our countrymen."
