Lod 4 is it back in nappy?

Thread: Lod 4 is it back in nappy?

Alot of us have noticed just how bad the 4th level of detail is in ETW. "popping" of units from 3rd lod to 4th is just utterly ugly in ETW. 30 yards from the camera my units turn into ugly "side galloping" atari sprites on ultra unit detail....My question is if anyone knows if CA has addressed this game breaker in NTW?

1.) Its not a game breaker, not by a very long way. It fact its quite the opposite (Point 2)
2.) It wont be addressed as it is very necessary for the low-end systems.
3.) If they bug you that much, change their "jump" distance in the db files

lod 4 is fine...just make them further in the distance like in med 2 and rome (i never noticed them there) and im sorry but whoever desigened the lod 4 models must have been asleep, they are atrocious looking. also would be very interested to know how to change the jump distance in the db file!

im sorry but seeing "side galloping" blobs 30-50 yards from the camera on ultra is unacceptable.

Making them 'further in the distance' will ruin the performance of lower end systems, even with the graphics turned down.

I play on ultra, and while I too would like the distance to be extended, since that would have to be done at the cost of detail closer up, I prefer it the way it is.

your missing the point, lower end systems should stick with low to medium settings....better systems that run ultra, should have lod 4 way farther out. get it? low-med settings=ugly lod 4 closer in, ultra settings lod 4 300yards out so its unnoticeable! why should all settings have the lod 4 render at the same damn distance!?

Hmm, this has bugged me for the whole life of ETW. Do you have any info or pointers to which tables are used in your suggestion above? I had previously considered copying all the LOD3 models to LOD4 thus removing LOD4 altogether, but a much more elegant solution would be to simply push the LOD4 out a lot further from the camera where they should be and won't so easily be seen by the eye when they transition.

    Cheers, Moopere

The thing I really hate about the fourth LOD is how it handles cavalry. Too often, there seems to be no animation for the horses' legs when they are moving, so the units seem to slide in for the attack. This looks pants.

I have a highend pc too.

I've modded some unit models and test it at moment, so I add only lod1 models. It's looks fantastic, but need extremly resources of my PC.

You can easily mod it by yourself. You need only to extract something like lod2, rename it to lod3 and lod4 and add it into a mod. Ready.

Surely N:TW use lod4. CA always wanted make their games for all PC's and this is a good way.

For everyone who wants to chhange it:
Open up pfm, go to warcsape_animated_lod.
The number under the unknown column is the distance at which the selected Lod engages. Just be careful when changing these, it can mess things up.

Thanks TC. I'll go and play with it. I think this solution will be much more elegant and provide a better resolution to the problem even for those with lower end systems. Getting rid of LOD4 altogether by replacing with LOD3 will probably kill even mid range systems I suspect.

anyways... although not a gamebreaking issue, it is one that should be addressed!

warcsape_animated_lod change unkown 2, and make sure LOD1 has the least value, then 2, etc...

"just experiment"... would, but it seems as though it is sooooo simple that even a "caveman could do it", to save stability and reinstalling... why cant the guru just tell us instead of being so coy???
