Modifying the files as per Jaylo's instructions will affect the saved games, right?
Any changes you make to the buildings should be in effect the turn after your current one, so yes.

Whenever i take Jerusalem by crusade i just delete whatever guild is there & wait for a Hospitaller one.

Ok, another question. (By the way, that modding thing worked: dismounted Templars are now available from a Minor house. I modded the Hospitallers, then after restarting the game and playing for a while, I remembered they aren't the only order, so I went back and changed the other ones too.)

If I capture one settlement with a Templar Minor house and another one with a Hospitaller Major house, the Templar house will never upgrade, will it? Or, for that matter, will the Hospitaller one? I know that the knight guilds are mutually exclusive, but do they hamper each other's development?

To be honest i wouldn't know as i've never been in that situation as i always remove the exclusive line in the guilds file.
I'm all for the most enjoyable game experience above anything else so i don't see any reason why both guilds shouldn't be available at the same time.

Can you post the way the entry looks before and after the removal of that line, please? Does it allow you to have the HQ for 2 knight orders at once?

Do you know if there is any way to find out if other factions have guild houses of a particular guild and where? I think each house should tell you if there are more of its kind in the world and their locations. (Maybe something for the next patch?)

All you need to do is open up "export_descr_guilds.txt", scroll down to the 10th & 11th guild entries which are the templars & st johns entries then simply delete the lines:
    "exclude st_johns_chapter_house"
    "exclude templars_chapter_house"
Yes both guilds are treated seperately so you can get a HQ for both.

The only way i know of is to send a spy to find out.
(Maybe something for the next patch?)
I'm not part of the mod in any way, although i do have a comprehensive mod out for DoW 2.

What's that? Dawn Of War? I thought that was a different game.

I didn't mean that you should do it, it was an aside to the mods.

    Thanks for your help.
