    Default So Many Annoying "Features"

So I would really like to like this mod but there's so much annoying stuff in here that makes it a boring chore to play that I just can't.

To begin with, why do I have to fight annoying independents before I can ever start playing the game proper? All the nations I've tried so far start next to multiple stacks of annoying free units including ones located in castles in MY OWN provinces I have to deal with. The worst are the ones actually stronger than my starting armies. Who thinks this is fun or interesting? Before I can get into the meat of the game of expanding and dealing with, you know, actual enemies I've got to play whack a mole in my own provinces. Tedious.

So after I've given the annoying chaff the boot I can now really start getting into building up my own empire and going after others. But then the next issue comes in: the economy. For some reason, I'm penalized for actually being good at the game by constantly having to micro things so I don't go over the dumb limits of 50 and 100k florins cause otherwise the game starts giving me . What does that mean? I've got dummy armies sitting nowhere doing nothing eating upkeep cause god forbid I actually make money, most of my towns are set to low taxes which gives bad traits to governors there, and I don't use merchants at all cause why bother?

Finally, what made me just say it and quit: enemy hordes. It's like I didn't have enough fun dealing with pointless chaff in the early game, now whenever I beat an enemy I have to do it again. It's not enough that I just fought through a ton of their massive armies (which they will have even if they only have two provinces for some reason, and I unchecked all the AI freebies in the beginning), now I've got them coming back for more.

I've got other complaints but those are my biggest ones. I really would like to like the mod, because it does some interesting some things that liven up the old M:TW 2 like the role playing system with units. It seems to me that it's aimed at the hardcore people who've been playing the game from release and thus know every single in and out and need lots of arbitrary, player punishing features to keep the game interesting. If you're at that point though, why are you still even playing the game? It can't be fun anymore.

So there are my two cents. Thank you if you actually made it this far~

Dealing with hordes is kinda right in the sense that it's good for gameplay. I mean, every nation that defeats another nation will have it's insurgents, freedom fighters or whatever you call someone who defends their homeland.

I don't know, just seems like this mod isn't for you since you don't know how to play it correctly. Don't take this to me sounding like an arse, just saying there's other mods out there that might fit your style.

Sometimes negative feedback means there is work to do...

On the other hand there's this kind of feedback, the 'unintended pat on the back' kind

First of all plz read the DLV manual (.pdf user instruction) carefully before you start any complaining.

I would like to add that you should know that DLV mod is a class of its own.
Also due to this fact it will be different and unique to other mods and indeed it is ... luckily.

Its a hardcore mod when all scripts are on and due to the idea to get the choice which script you like to adjust for your own difficulty gameplay level you will find yourself in a absolute unique MTW 2 environment where you got more individual possible settings than with other MTW 2 mods imo.

    Happy gaming.

    Cheers

Eventhough there are a number of mini mods which would effectivly fix most of your issues, I think you should go over to playing TATW, DLV 4.0 or DLV Europa.
Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

Dude, you are one ungrateful guy. First of all, after playing just 5 minutes of DVL one is immediately struck by the ingenuity and hard work that has been put forth into the game. If you are to start bashing a game like this at least recognize the talent that has been put into it first then resume with your complaints.

Secondly, DVL is not a game for new players who stare difficulties in the face and run away. The rebel army in the beginning of the game forces a player to make some choices: either attack them right now and loose army units or wait till my economy improves but gain devastation setbacks. The choice is yours and you have to make that decision.

Thirdly, when you just destroy a faction's settlements without having destroyed its whole army, do u really expect to just be given a pat on the back for a good job? What about the remaining other forces? Are they to just magically disappear into thin air? This kind of stuff is found in vanilla and other inferior mods but don't expect to find it in DVL! Furthermore, in history, when civilizations are conquered but not destroyed the defeated people often patiently rebuild their armies and retake their lands. This happened in Babylon, China, Byzantine, France, Rome...etc Jeez, man, read some history books.

Fourthly, if you have so much money-assuming you did not use any cheats (with your attitude i wont be surprise you have been cheating all this while which would make you complain about having so much cash that inflation sets in so early in the game) lend me some. I have yet to reach 20.000-to many wars and people to kill A.I. hordes are annoying, we all know that. Instead of crying about it, defeat them, gain experience for your units, command points, and better traits for your generals! Surely having to recruit you armies to face A.I. hordes will take care of your money problems. And look at you, you mentioned disable some of the scripts and yet you are still crying. Man, so sad.

Lastly, DVL is by far the greatest mod ever made for Medieval II total war. If you cannot recognize this and would stoop to belittling the game and not giving credit to the great minds that put this mod together, you really should go cry to your mama. It is one thing to offer improvement advice but you are advising for a degradation of the game. No one is making this game any more easier so that a noob might enjoy himself If anything, i want the game even more harder!!!

Its good to know that DVL has the potential to break down the weak

Just because the general is 50 something shouldnt make him move so ridiculously slow (65-70 yes slow), otherwise Caesar and Marlborough wouldnt have been good generals

well i too always found its anooying to have to deal with a huge rebel stack in the beginning thats made up of high end modern troops.
if i am the leader of a country it feels weird that a random rebel army is so far superior techologically then the acualy country they rebel in.

i would even care much it it would be all low tier troops with very high experience. at least this way they would be strong but not so far advanced.

Hi,can I just say DLV is just BRILL. Iv'e played a lot of mods on here, and well they're all good but not that much more than the MTW2. Yes,they've got bigger maps, great on the graphs units, and some well bad ass AI's. But,you still bulid a stack, sack a fellow country and build another stack. DLV,has soooo much more.I'm playing the game at the min,and not only is it a challenge to build an army, but you find yourself using your brain more. No,more just build a stack and go city hopping. You have to contend with after the battle, bringing in your priest to start conversion or you dont get to build the basic army in the town. Then you've got to clean house, and sort out the locals who are camped in your new lands cos they are also causing you unrest. The only thing I've done to DLV was to put the 12months mod in it and that seem (for me to be better) ie 2 months to build a well, thats fair.Point is,its not for the kid who just wants to kill everyone or just to build a stack and go kill a country,is MORE REAL,ITS MORE TRUE,ITS TOTAL WAR. Now if you could just get DLV europe to work

    Hello,
i've played a ton of mods, for two years now, and NO other mod than DLV created such a " comic relief " while being knee deep in invading armies, messy economy, and inner house managment.
lovely mod/very well thought out, and only one i never notice that i've passed turn 100.

There is two annoying things in this beautiful mod:

-The traits young...why does a old general move less than a young one? Is their age influence their armies, the horse on what they are???????

-The CCCCTTTTTDDDD. In fact, this mod is not very stable, there are always some silver units and CTD CTD and CTD. Fortunately, there is the excellent taiji's mod and if i play the mod it's for a great part because of the enw animations taiji's created.

Funny. But for the army? Why does an army move better with a young inexperienced general than with a old general with full experience of logistic ????
