Will it update if playing in offline mode?

RomaJilo. Even Offline Steam will update. To stop this, you MUST pull out the internet plug from your computer, gently of course. Then pop back in after game. You`ll have to do it every time you play. It`s the only way.

In Steam under the My Games tab, I believe you can right-click on Empire, choose Properties and select under Updates the option: Don't update. The default is Automatically Keep Game Updated.

It is logical to infer that selecting an option that says "Do not automatically update this game" will, in fact, prevent Steam from automatically updating your game.

That's not what that option does, however. A more accurate selection of options would be "Automatically update this game" and "Automatically update this option to say 'automatically update this game' and, then, automatically update the game."

Because that's how it actually functions.

It doesn't update in offline mode, though. But make sure you set Steam to offline mode, not just your friends status.

Does Steam make you update before playing Empire. Because I went offline to try play and it said game is not updated enough to play. Does it always do that or should I be able to play offline if I pause update.

Also what does this update actually consist of. Like what does it improve. All it said was it was released because of Elite Units of the East DLC

It will add a Patch4 pack to your datamap even if you havent bought the latest DLC
Thats because your game has to be compatible to everyone elses if you want to play MP and did not buy the latest DLC !
The patch4 pack will however screw up your mods(most) and youll have to look for updates in the modthreads of the mods you are using.
Besides that, just taking the patch4 pack out of your datamap and save it somewhere safe will do the trick!

Not necessarily true. I keep my steam in "offline" mode and it never updates. As soon as I go online though it will update, no way to stop that. If you want to play MP online, it will update.
