Default Good Sub Mods for Rohan?

Playing in Vanilla 1.4, I often find it hard to triumph as Rohan. I've beaten the game as Dale and Gondor of course, but when I play Rohan I find that Isengard is indomitable. No matter what tactic I use, no matter how many units I pump out of the Hornburg or Edoras, it's always countered and defeated. For instance, on turn 3 I muster all the armies from the 3 northwestern towns and all the cavalry from the east into one army. My spy shows that there are 5 unit cards in Isengard. Then, as soon as I move into the zone, that 5 goes to a 15 and I'm fighting 1500 against 3500. Needless to say I'm defeated and they ravage all my towns in northwestern Rohan.

Sorry for the long-winded story, but I was hoping there would be some Sub Mods that could ease this arduous campaign.

You should focus on open battles because of your cavalry, try to play defensively at first, barring their advance at bridges when possible. If you're feeling that it's too hard there are ways to bypass the garrison script.

I'm certain Rohan is not unbalanced maybe you should seek some help on the guides sub-forum.

Do you know of any ways to bypass this garrison script? Also, why was it even implemented in the first place?

Search these forums for Garrison Script and you will find all the information you could ever want.

The garrison script was implemented because the a.i is just too dumb.

The a.i is unable to garrison and defend their cities right. E.g they would often garrison cities with 1 or 2 units, if at all. This would make taking cities too easy.

One way to bypass the garrison script is to attack the city right away. (e.g if there are no walls, or you have siege engines..)

Aha, that answers my second question. But about the first -- are there any Sub Mobs for the benefit of the Free Peoples (i.e. elves, dwarves, Rohan, Gondor, and Dale)? I remember hearing about one that makes the Free Peoples have outstanding alliances together and that they'll help each other in war. Does anyone know the name of this alleged mod, or the names of any others beneficial to this notion?

if you copy the attached file to your Medieval II Total War\mods\Third_Age\data folder and overwrite the existing descr_mount.txt you cavalrys charges will be more devastating. rohan should benefit the most of this.

    Yep, follow Louis,
    - I usually recruit Rohan Archers and Rohan Cavalry and I try to defend key bridges in the first-20 to 30 turns.
-Westfold falls in the first 10 turns in VH/VH but I keep playin.
-Later when I have a good 20000 gold, I recruit some heavier cavalry.

    - Remember that you should try to take Lond Galen, Talsir, and Derwath before turn 5.
    - Isengard usually comes to conquer Talsir around turn 4 so be quick.

    - Also- I use archers to weak Isengard. Isengard is usually heavy infantry and they do not really recruit a lot of ranged soldiers.
    - After their ranks have holes in them I send a few infantry to distract while i send my bulk of my cavalry around the fighting area and flank those bastards
    - Usually my prisoner number is twice the killed number

-Sell them for more cash, or kill them if you want a quick end.

    Regards.

Good vs Evil campaign maybe? Its probably out dated but I think it' included in RC/RR.
One way to bypass the garrison script is to wait for a settlement to have a army nearby so that if you attack the army the garrison will serve as reinforcement then you completely wipe out their army and I mean really take everyone prisoner and execute them so that the settlement is completely empty and you can take it unchallenged.

Well, RC/RR is great. It includes many submods, like the Good vs Evil submod, and balances the game. You should try it, since it makes the game much more enjoyable.

EDIT: On a lighter note, could you direct me to where I might find the most recent version of RC/RR? I've found a few downloads but they look dated.

The main post should lead you to the right download.

I`m afraid you`d had to start a new campaign- RC/RR isn`t save game compatible.

By the way, you can read in the FAQs how to disable the garrison script.

Very funny and old tale of Mordor. The grass is always greener.

Rohan is actually my favorite faction. Surviving with hordes of gondor militia makes me want to put my eyes out.

My best results with Rohan in vanillia 1.4 are from rushing, first turn recruit out of edoras and Hornburg and send ever unit you can from across the entire mark racing to isengard. by turn 4 or 5 you have a concentrated stack, throw everything against Isengard. wait out the siege, sooner or later you will get a field battle when relief troops attack your siege force.

Rest is really clean up, the weak factions script will spawn another full stack of isengard troops a turn or so after isengard falls. Only need to win two pitched battles and you've broken Isengard rest is clean up and you have all of Isengard's territory by turn 20.

As Rohan I normally blitz Isengard immediately with all my garrisons, just wait till there is a unit outside of Isengard (next to it) then attack and the garrison will reinforce, just kill them all and you can walk in unopposed.
