Hello , "Right to knight" is in the RR/RC mod .

When it says "Universal right to knight" at the start of a turn , it means that all your generals in castles can recruit the highest quality units during this turn (ie : knights or nobles , example : King's Men or dismounted chivalric knights ) until the King declares "right to knight restricted" to war councillors

Usually , only your "War councillors" with "professional training staff" can recruit "knights" quality troops in a castle . You can give the war councillor and professional training staff traits to anyone , but most of the time you cannot have more than 3 war councillors , usually you have 2 of them , so make sure they are in a castle .

Personally , my war councillors are always in my 2 most important castles , i give them the "privy seal" and choose those with highest chivalry (so that your castle's population rise quickly ) . My best generals (usually my King and is heir ) with the most stars are in the field with the main army and all the best traits given to them (like siege master , black stallion etc.. )

To be more specific it's part of Byg's Grim Reality sub-mod which is optional in RR/RC. If you look in the sub-mods section you'll find it.

Mhm I believe it also refers to monarchs belief that they are divinely ordained rulers, and can knight anyone they please.

Its more about BYG trying to model feudalism vs centralization. IE- once a large empire is formed it can't survive as a feudal state and needs to centralize which restricts the traditional rights of the nobles in favor of the king and those appointed to represent the king. The right to knight etc changes with faction size... larger the size(higher in the rankings) the more centralized the state moves. It can be a bit misleading because some factions have access to larger population cities and fortresses and a strong economy which makes them rise quite high in the ranks even with very few actual regions controlled vs playing a faction like Cumans where you could expand to 20 regions and still be middle ranked.

In BYG mod faction size/zeal also affects loyalties of generals and inflation costs where the high ranked factions almost always going to get inflation which doubles the price of everything. Basically it is meant to slow down rushing and make you play more like a real king would with the loyalty of your generals being very important as well as the economy being key even in larger empires. It works ok though the war councilors being the only ones can recruit from castles later in the game and you being limited to 3 of them usually makes me not develop castles much and convert most to cities and use many more mercenaries/militia troops because 3 field generals is not enough to use in a larger empire when they also have to sit in a castle for 5-15 turns to get the stronger units.

I´d like to bump this because I still dont understand how I get knights. I´m new to Stainless Steel, my first mod ever and I love it I am playing with this Byg´s grim reality patch:

I am playing as Denmark and have 2 castle-regions with over 90 % catholic faith. My faction zeal is Abysmal and Recruitment is centralized, so only my king and his heir can recruit knights, the heir only if he´s a member of the war council. Did I get everything right so far ?

I placed my king and heir with war council trait in these castles, but the "Huscarl" card stays grey and always says that it takes 6 or 9 turns until the next unit is available but that never changes. I have been waiting for ages and no Huscarls.

Somebody said above that King/Heir also need "Professional recruitment staff". I never got that trait, though Please help me because I´m fed up with only being able to recruit militia and viking raiders!

Read the BGR thread again, you should download a fix before playing. Now you'll have to restart.

Unfortunately because BGR is separate mod and to make it as good as possible since BYG is the only guy really working on it there are several versions and some fixes for older versions for certain bugs like not being able to recruit high level units. It can be confusing figuring out exactly what you need to download but it is easier if you have SS 6.1 or 6.2- everything before that is requiring several patches. 6.1 should require only one fix patch while the 6.2 compilation beta works perfectly so far with no major reported bugs but would require reinstall of SS if you have 6.1.

In the submods forum BYG has a thread http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=106060 just for this mod and is willing to answer questions.

If it says you require professional staff that is a separate ancillary just like war councilor and most of the time when awarded war councilor your general will receive professional staff as well. If none of your generals have it then you definitely need a fix and probably have to start campaign over. You can leave the professional staff on a non war councilor general while your king and heir go fight wars and the time to recruit the next unit will decrease but you have to bring back the king or heir to that castle to actually recruit the unit.
