    Default Dissapointed with artillery effects

    I really love this game, and everything is amazing. but one thing has been bothering me, and thats the effects of artillery. it would be so much cooler if the units getting hit by arty actually reacted properly! It looks awful, the units just drop! its really a shame and really ruins the experience. never the less i still have a blast playing the game!

    I guess you`re looking for the Hollywood version of artillery. ETW is actually pretty realistic with its artillery explosions. In real life, sharpnel would kill men and they would generally just drop. Of course you would see arms and legs get sheared off (which obviously Ca aren`t doing), but you wouldn`t get men flying into the air. they would simply drop or fall to the side. All we need is a little blood which mods provide anyway.

    i saw the explosions in NTW and men flew about. This was actually silly and unrealistic.

    I certainly don`t remember any ETW previews vids showing that, but then again, those vids showed a lot of things that never happened, like ship battles near coastlines, for example.

    I think Ziggy means that when a cannonball hits a infantry dude, he acts like he gets shotted by musket balls. Not just dropping dead but doing a little dance to where the ''bullets'' hit him.

    I see what he means. I think he is generally disaffected by the lack of dismemberment where it belongs. I like the effects but understand that;

    dismemberment is massively tough on frame rate.
    dismemberment makes Total war less appealing to parents.

    As it stands now, people are just playing dead. No blood, no body parts. They should probably call the game Empire: Total Re-enactment. Either way, I play other games for realisting death scenes.

    As Humble stated, currently it's pretty accurate. If your looking for other effects, perhaps a mod or modder might be able to address that...
    The extra development time will allow us to finalize and polish Empire, making it the most accomplished and epic of the Total War series." said Kieran Brigden, Studio Communications Manager at The Creative Assembly. "There is a great deal of anticipation around Empire: Total War and we want to ensure that it is the benchmark for strategy games upon its release.

    Yeah, it was the shrapnel that killed them and that is just like being hit with a bit bullet. Men didn't go flying through the air

    Yes, and Hollywood fails to capture the skipping effect many cannons had, something I can credit ETW to doing quite well! Non-explosive cannonballs in the game will in fact skip off of terrain from time to time before ruffling your chap's feathers. Jolly good!

    Actually Hollywood in general completely misses the effect of artillery on Cavarly units too. Anyone ever see the last charge in "The Last Samurai?" Bloodly atrocious. Or even, the Patriot, where they had explosions going off behind the lines of advancing British Infantry?

    Just a hint, that skiping effect works well if you use it properly. just tell your cannons to shoot about 10-20 yards in front of the enemy line and the balls will skip and plow through them. This is assuming a flat surface. You can judge if they will skip effectively or not by the terrain and can get quite good at it after some practice doing it.

    Quite possibly, the realistic effects of artillery fire would be more impressive in up and coming Napoleon:TW.

    Not if men go flying in the air as I saw in the preview.
