One of the few programs i watched on discovery, deadliest catch was one of them, and this captain especially is what kept this show amusing since he kept sparring with his sons on his ship..

Deadliest Catch will never be the same without him.

I remember 2 seasons ago when he got that blood clot lodged in his lung after they'd been knocked around by a rogue wave. IIRC it originated in his leg from sitting on his ass all day in the captain's chair, and when he got knocked out of bed it dislodged the clot and luckily passed through the heart into the lung (if it got stuck in the heart he would died fairly quickly, and was apparently a 1/10 chance to get through the heart into the lung). I imagine the same sort of thing happened to cause his stroke.

Yeah, I was really sad to hear that. He'll live on doing what he enjoyed doing so long as Deadliest catch is viewable anywhere.

I spent many a summer day lying in front of my TV watching Deadliest Catch marathons on Discovery Channel. Sad to see him go, but I can't say I'm very surprised. Dude smoked cigs and drank coffee perpetually.

I wonder what they're going to do about the Cornelia Marie. Will the sons take over? Will it still be on Deadliest Catch?

What a tragedy, deadliest catch is imo one of the best programs ever aired on Discovery and Phil Harris was certainly one of the more "interesting" captains...Yeah I wonder what is going to happen with his sons, and the Cornelia Marie..Hopefully they will continue on..

    Captains on the show.
    Lets see, very little sleep.
A diet of cigarettes and coffee.
    Stress.
    High fat foods.
Sitting in one place for hours.

I'm surprised any of them see 60.

    I love Deadliest Catch...
Is it just me or is there a change of scene and theme after some seasons ? I've seen a DC about some fishermen at the US east coast

They had an 'After the Catch' ep with a north atlantic cod fisherman. Also, now there's Lobstermen and some other fishing boat show of a similar theme about sword fish or tuna fishing. They just don't compare IMO, although I do respect these sorts of reality TV compared to ALL the others because its about real people simply doing their jobs in an otherwise hostile environment. Although it leads to the question of how much the presence of the camera and film crews affects their life styles that we see. But that's for another thread.

I hope the kids and Harris' friend (forget his name, took over the boat for a season while Phil was recoperating) continue fishing.

Wow, this is gonna be a depressing season for DC:

    http://www.corneliamarie.com/fishing...anderson-ends/

Keith Anderson is the father of Jake Anderson, who is the crew member on the Northwestern who left mid season last season due to the death of his sister, and now his father has gone missing and presumably is dead.

Read an article today that says that the entire event, from Phil's initial heart attack to him in his last moments were caught on tape. The family hasn't said if it will release the footage to air. Sort of brings up some ethical issues and how do they want people to remember him.

They showed him going through his previous health issues on the show, but they knew he would survive. Would be a heart wrenching episode if they showed this recent event. I think they should just focus on the reaction of the rest of the fleet. More to honor Phil than show his last hours.
