Default Ever got sad about losing a general?

So, here I am, at 3030 TA on VH/VH with Isengard. Ugluk, my first Faction Leader and best general, is I think 92. With him leading most battles, I'v won a slow war against Rohan, whose territory I know own, (with the exception of Tirith Anduin that belongs to the Dwarves). I also have Erech, Minas Tirith and Cair Andros, that I took from Gondor when using an Invasion on Pelargir to move three stacks into Gondor, get those territories overnight and then force them to peace. I also have Fangorn, Tharbad and Talsir, as well as my initial territories. I've fought with Ugluk in Helm's Deep, Foldburg, Isengard, Fangorn, Talsir, Lond Angren, Derwath, Adorn, Edoras, Dunharrow, Aldburg and finally Minas Tirith.

    And then he dies... Mwaaaaaaa

That happened last night and I stopped for yesterday at that point... Does that ever happen to you? Getting sad about losing a particular general?
    Commander, the time has come.

    Nope, never happened.
He's just a bunch of 1's and 0's. Only Lain would be saddened by such a thing but, let's face it, she IS a program...
Though a general called Pippin has some special meaning to me...

And a book is just a bunch of letters. And a movie is not real at all. But we often get sad because of them

    good one.

yea i also try to stay with the usual family tree (no adoptions) especially in SS where you got bloodline traits it just makes the game a little more fun IMO.

i dont like it when my 10 star general suddently becomes The Mad or something and loses like 6 stars in the end because he gets worse and worse

hahaha and after my anger, i can laugh because suddently i realise it's just a game..

I'm playing as Gondor at the moment and I've had much success distroying Mordor with 3 stacks whose captains were Aragorn, Boromir and Faramir. After taking over the dark lands I decided to send Boromir and Faramir (age 71 and 66) back to Minas Tirith to rest. After passing Minas Ithil they got ambushed by a lone nazgul general with four units of uruk archers (flashback to Boromir getting pierced by a bunch of arrows), and they both died, I WAS PISSED!

This guys were on their way to retirement, not fair man!

My heart is aching whenever I lose a general, because I love having as many Sindel archers in a stack as possible.

Well, since i try to build my generals from scratch, e.g i ignore old guys like elrond.. and use adopted generals mostly, it can happen that i grow attached to some general. (Likely my ability to feel for 0`s and 1`s was increased through the following game http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwarf_Fortress)

Ofc; I`m far too good to lose any generals in battle. ^^

When I lose an important general I'll play this song. Skip the first 20 sec.

♪ Now it's over, I'm dead and I haven't done anything that I want, or I'm still alive and there's nothing I want to do

This song has been literally translated (By me, quite some time ago) but it still represents the message it has. Ugluk will forever be feared and loved by the Orcs.

Jan Klaasen was Trumpeter in the army of the prince,
He marcherd from Den Helder to Den Briel,
he had no money and he was no hero,
and he didn't like battle but trumpeter was he in heart and soul!

The army camped outside of Alkmaar in the field,
As long as there was no enemy everyone was a hero,
The pub was occupied as strategic point by command,
The officers shouted 'Come Jan play on your Trumpet'!

They woke up un the guter in the morning it was very cold,
But Jan Klaassen slept in the arms of the daughte of the sheriff!

The prince spoke on inspection to the Major of the Company,
'I saw all the pieces of my artillery,
Yes even that small one in your collar and the blonde one in your bed,
But where is that piece of of Jan with his trompet?'

And nobody saw Jan Klaassen who sat at the city gates,
And played a hundred songs for the children from the city!

Jan Klaassen said: 'goodbye my love i'll see you next year,
When the spring comes back we'll be together agaian!'
The winter went the summer came the war was over,
But the army never returned from the Noorder Hei!

Nobody found anything of Jan Klaassen ever again,
But the children know he is not dead he lives!

you shouldnt feel sad that such generals live, because it means that you didnt live the life you wanted to live with them. if you know those generals lived a happy and fulfilling life, you shouldnt feel sad.

I also make sure that my Generals die in battle in stead of a straw death. want only that way they can enter the white kingdom and fight side by side with the gods in the end.

For me I like to create back stories for my generals baised on the stats they start with and/or gain through out the adventure. Just my way of adding a little RP to this TBS . As for generals dieing, it doesn't bother me much as many will reapear win a new game. As well once the general reaches their max age I like to send them into enemy lands and fight till they die with the idea that a death on the battle field is a far nobler death than to die in bed from old age.

If I lose Witchking from old age I will stop the game. Thankfully that's not easy to happen since he has ... 100+ turns to live? By the time he dies from old age, I won't need him anymore.
