Default I'd Call Myself a "Casual Gamer", but...

I'm tired of CA using the casual gamers as an excuse to not program a decent AI. I don't want so much of a challenge that I pull my hair out, but I don't want an easy fight either where the AI just walks his soldiers around the map.
As quote I heard said, "The harder the fight, the greater the victory."
CA, please don't use players like me as an excuse to not try.

well said, I think I'm a casual gamer as I don't play games more than 3 hours(that's not hardcore gaming right?) and still I think the AI of Empire is to easy to beat.

Exactly my sentiments. And casual is no excuse for broken diplomacy.

    Where did they do that?
I've seen people on the forum say "they don't fix the AI because they only care about casual gamers", but when did CA themselves say "we don't see a reason to fix the AI because our target consumer group is satisfied with its current state"?

In one of Mike's blogs he says CA has been using a failed AI because they claim casual American gamers prefer to win every last fight. I'm a casual gamer, and an American, and I don't agree with that.

agreed, they should stop using americans as an excuse ,along with casual gamers to excuse rubbish programming.

Use the search function or go on the main site. It was in his blog it was either the discussion that ETW was too embarrassing to give away to his friends or the blog post right before that.

He really made us out to be fools for paying for ETW.

Although I did miss the comment you refer to when I first read the blog, I checked it again but didn't find it.
Here is the "too embarrassing" post, the one before is Mikes very first blog entry.
I really don't want to waste more time to look for something I don't really believe exists, so link or it didn't happen.

Well I would say that I do like to win every last fight, but I want to be able to lose if I screw up.

Unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to lose and that's the problem....

I love the Multi-player, but I got bored of the campaign so fast because the battles were no fun.

Winnig every last fight is fun, if your the kinda person who can laugh repetedly at a man wlaking into a door, in which case you need help....

Shoot coward! You are only going to kill a man!

There are some people who are quite happy to impossibly win repeatedly without effort, then pretend to be good. I even had a friend once who refused to play us at any games because he never wanted a chance to lose. The rest of thought that was so weird.

I think anyone who can`t handle sometimes losing has a problem. Experiencing losing is sometimes a good thing since it teaches the mind to rethink and relearn new strategies. It also helps a person cope with unexpected problems and overcome in the end. Losing can sometimes be winning in the long term!

you know there's the difficulty setting right? their excuse is baseless. because the casual gamer will choose normal or hard maybe. its no reason for them not to program VH for the fans.

I believe US gamers also want a game that makes them feel something like: OMG I CANT BELIEVE I GOT OVER THAT HURDLE! I MUST BE A GENIUS! THAT WAS FREAKING TOUGH I ALMOST GOT AN HEART ATTACK!

i mean, it is a strategy game after all. why would people who do not like to use their brains buy a strategy game. =_=

Exactly. I have yet to play a battle where the AI used its artillery or cavalry intelligently. Sometimes its infantry behaves correctly, but at present most of the difficulty in the game comes from being vastly outnumbered because the AI can afford any number of troops, against all in-game economic logic.

I think that CA should have the 'easy' difficulty for casuals and the 'hard' difficulty for the hardcore gamers. That's what the difficulty settings are for

I play on normal, I don't like super AI line infantry, but I'm more disatisfied with how the AI performs with blind agression on the campaign and acting like an idiot general who can't stick to a plan. I still want to see an AI that knows his strengths and weaknesses and sticks to a game plan rather than walking right into my line because they happen to be in the way of getting to my artillery crew or general.

Their version of 'casual gamer' are ones who don't care enough to sign up to a forum. Hence, they don't complain. Perfect right?

Well put Humble. I had an ETW battle tonight on very hard setting (USA vs Russia) and it came down to my 12 Dragoons vs AI's 32 Grenadiers. My Drags had taken out 3 artillery units and an infantry unit before I faced the Grenadiers. It was a game of cat and mouse and it must have been a 25 minute battle which I ended up losing but it was awesome. I don't like losing but I liked the strategy that went into the final fight and it was a huge challenge to stay in it.

It's no fun when you can just roll over the enemy and collect W's each battle.
