    Default The Diplomacy Thread

Despite the fact that I have been playing TW since Shogun, I feel that I have never quite mastered diplomacy. I thought it would be nice to have a thread in which issues of diplomacy could be addressed and advice given.

    To start us off:

I had poised the question in another discussion recently but thought it would more appropriately deserve its own thread. My situation is one of constant invasions against Edoras coupled with a crumbling economy and defense force.

Does anyone have a strategy to prompt one's allies to send reinforcements to their region? I suppose with good enough relations I could demand monies, or perhaps force an attack faction agreement. In my experience these attack faction agreements don't amount to much at all and there's no guarantee that the AI would send help my way. Any advice?

There really is nothing that will make the AI come and help you defend a specific city.

The "attack faction" request probably only relates to declaration of war and as you said it does almost nothing. The AI still follows it's old attack routines.

The best you can hope for is to find an allied army standing next to an enemy army and then attack which will cause the allied AI to enter the battle.

If you're having too much trouble with defending Edoras against invasions then allow it to be captured as soon as the invasion begins. "Losing" Edoras will end the invasion and then you're just left with the relatively easy task of recapturing it.

I see this only being realized through scripting and not diplomacy. The ''attack-faction'' agreement itself in the diplomacy is very hard to require and even then the A.I. will not aid you if one of your settlements is being besieged.
