The APP store model for mods

It seems that CA is reluctant to release modding tools to modders fearing that it may eat into their profit line, however couldn't it work in their advantage if they thought of their games as "development platforms", in much the same way as Apple and Microsoft do about their OS/Hardware?

Release free tools that people can develop add-ons for the games, then set-up some online store and let them sell their creations online, then take a percentage of the sale. This way you could enforce quality standards for released products, plus make some additional cash without having to do much.

I would pay to buy Darth Mod, and also for a bigger map if somebody developed it, or for some additional units, and campaign
modes, more regions, etc....Not a lot obviously, but if they were charged appropriately, why not.

They propably would not even need to set-up a store themselves, most likely a deal could be made with Steam to sell the third-party developers content as well.

    Just an idea.

Good God man, don't give them ideas!

Problem is, then Darth would immediately turn into the enemy and a liar if his mod had bugs. He says he will fix it, then gets sick and then a posse of forumers heads out to lynch him.

It would get ugly. It always does when Money is involved.

Keep it free and keep modding it for the love of the game.

    NO!
The whole point of mods is they are user created content, FREE OF CHARGE! (/Caps rage)

Would you like it if you had to pay for mods for, say, Oblivion, one of the most modded games available?
Admittadly, such as model would work well for the TW series since there are very few mods, all of them large, it is still a bad idea.
