    Icon8 what the budgerigar!

So I attempt to play Empire Total war (after managing to get it to function at a minimal level) by clicking the desktop icon and it starts up as usual. Then it begins downloading this 'Elite Units of the East' pack. I have no objection to having the extra content, but I'd rather not download it from Steam. I just want to play the game as it is, but unfortunately it wont let me until I've downloaded this new pack.Due to lacking a 'professional gamer' PC or internet connection it's taking a while to download from Steam (at the moment it informs me it's going to take 2 days and 11 hours).

Is there any way to opt out of this rubbish? I'm not leaving my computer on throughout two nights to download 12 silly new units.

    Thanks,
    Lozzer

Ah yes well unfortunately as a layman PC gamer I was a victim of its target audience. So I bought it with the false understanding that it would 1: work effectively; and two; not hassle me with these silly little update which obstruct me from playing it.

Would anyone be so useful as to actually provide me with some help?

You should be able to cancel it by right clicking and putting "stop download" and then right click and go to properties and tell it not to patch.
If im not mistaken, should solve the problem.
Btw, with that kind of internet connection im surprised you managed to get onto this forum at any speed.

Just to be more specifc, you need to right click, go to properties, go to upgates, then tell it do not automatically update.

    Thank you!

I don't know what it is, but it works well with everything else except this 'Steam' business.

if you're using a router this is a common problem, if its slow with steam only, go to the steam forums for tech help.

I only deal with Steam because of this game and only because my wife bought it for me as a gift. From what I have dealt with them and from what I have read here and a couple of other sites, you will get their business loaded before you see yourself playing.

You can play in offline mode but you you have to be connected to Steam to get the option.

If you are using a 56k modem, it will take a couple of days, and if you're on a time limit, expect to more on the next bill.

You can change servers/site on the bottom on the my games page.

Anyway, nothing seems to be able to cancel it.

I've registered with Steam forum but it wont let me login even when I've taken the 'action' to activate the account.

The DLC download manages to get to 20% if left for 4 hours, but after that mark it disconnects my internet thus causing it to start from 1% again.

Quite annoyed, I was enjoying the game.

    Teeheehee.

    I'm Australian also.

And any Steam-based game is therefore a bag of steaming manure.

Don't even bother. When you finally get to play it will spend 3 months downloading a patch you didn't even want.
