Default Stephen Fry at Intelligence2 on the Catholic Church

    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xbv...fry_shortfilms

I don't think as much of Stephen Fry as many people do, but I thoroughly enjoy his lecture here. Obviously, I agree with him that the Catholic Church is a force of evil in the world - a power that focuses on murdering pregnant girls in Latin America, protecting paedophiles in Ireland and spreading AIDs in Africa and is and has long been more a business than a spiritual organisation.

He can be pretty funny sometimes but he comes across as so pompous and arrogant that I don't particularly like him. I'm watching this now to see what he has to say.

Excellent stuff. You can tell it's a subject that he has alot of feeling about - I don't think I've ever seen Stephen Fry so affected by anything. And I can't think of anything that he said there that was wrong.

At least he was respectable, can't say the same for others. More and more I realize how many people don't like the current pope, Catholic and otherwise.

Most of it I agree with but I'd say the Catholic church is really a force for good which has done evil at times.

I wonder how long they'll keep standing in the rain in their Frankish arrogance until they come back inside.

Perhaps I misunderstood you, that's kinda why I put the *suprise* emocon, but I put what I read into your quote in red.

EDIT: Yes that is a whole lot different than that. I am sure you arn't talking about hatred here at all. Just differences in dogma, that's all

Which even that is quite different than "They are different so I hate them" which Ferrets was saying, isn't it?

    No, it isn't at all.

To say a year and a half salary is all you need is a blatant misrepresentation of Catholic doctorine. Secondly he mentioned limbo for unborn children also false, baptism of desire. Thirdly he say's that purgatory isn't in the bible, OK I agree to that, but what of the text that insinuate purgatory. This isn't something that some Pope decided "yeah this is a good way to extrapolate people's money with fear tactics" These are issues that have been dissected by theologians a whole lot smarter than a simple sheep like me.
Cheers on that. Obvious Stephen Fry ignorance is obvious.

How is my criticism of the rc considered hate because they are different?

You did not frame your post with a single reason for why you do not like the Catholic Church. What you said was "I am this, they are that, and therefore I hate them".

That is morally and intellectually bankrupt.
