So that's what happened to the Iraqi airforce.
JAN.
I have always thought that we would never find WMDs in Iraq. Even before we invaded, I supported the war, but not to go find WMDs which I think can't be found because of the way the country is, but to stop a terrorist in Saddam from making more.

This an old plane that got burried in the sand over time. What does this have to do with WMD's or hideouts?

Uhhh, no it isn't. It is a MiG-25.Originally Posted by Seleukos

The U.S. watched Iraqi's bury this Foxbat with their satellites, they are probably digging it up now in order to give it to the Iraq puppet government.
Trust me, if Iraqi's had WMD's they would have blown up America by now. I don't think the insurgents are holding back out of mercy.
Vash- Rem, why cant people just get along?
Rem- because people have many different ways of thinking.

hmm quoting from the article that meh_cd postedOriginally Posted by SovietInsurgent
http://www.snopes.com/photos/military/sandplanes.asp (Thank you meh_cd i wasnt familiar with this article before)WASHINGTON, Aug. 6, 2003 — American forces have found Russian fighter jets buried in the Iraqi desert, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said in an Aug. 5 press briefing.
"We'd heard a great many things had been buried, but we had not known where they were, and we'd been operating in that immediate vicinity for weeks and weeks and weeks . . . 12, 13 weeks, and didn't know they were (there)," Rumsfeld said.
The secretary said he wasn't sure how many such aircraft had been found, but noted, "It wasn't one or two."
He said it's a "classic example" of the challenges the Iraqi Survey Group is facing in finding weapons of mass destruction in the country.
"Something as big as an airplane that's within . . . a stone's throw of where you're functioning, and you don't know it's there because you don't run around digging into everything on a discovery process," Rumsfeld explained. "So until you find somebody who tells you where to look, or until nature clears some sand away and exposes something over time, we're simply not going to know.
"But, as we all know," he added, "the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence."

no wmds but plenty of oil to be found.
The USA currently uses the F-15E as the main air superiority fighter. The F-15 has gone through multitudes of modifications and redesigns. The Iraqi MIGs are as old as they can be.Originally Posted by plasticfigurine
As for the WMD's,
Although I am annoyed that the Bush Administration used WMDs as their main point of persuasion in the invasion (and which I cared little about) I have heard from Marines themselves about what they were told to expect. When Baghdad was invaded the men has to wear biohazard suits (and it was 120 degrees already). Now, if the troops were told to wear anti-WMD suits then either the intel they got was horribly wrong or there was a real threat. I personally believe that Saddam did have WMDs still but was able to get rid of them appropriately once the UN asked for more time. I don't think he had the capacity to deal disastrous damage with the amount he had but I think he still had WMDs.

This is a Mig-25, a not so old and pretty good plane.Originally Posted by Seleukos
Planes including old dont get "buried in the sand over time", old planes usually get dissasembled, this one is surprisingly intact.
the wings were taken off obviouly fot the purpose of hiding it,
and it has a lot with WMD's and hideouts.....
i think he means that if the iraqis could hide huge planes, so that they can actually hide WMDs too
also note a few things, on picture one you can see that the tail is covered with a camo net,
in others you can see that the plane is covered with plastic wrap....
this plane was buried on purpose with the idea to use it later.
