And senate gives you missions and at some point you can capture Rome, in a way representing a civil war.

The options are not available when selecting the factions at the beggining but once you get into the campaign map, press ESC>Game options and you can change anything you'd like there.

i always prefer the senate campaign as with the right diplomacy they can be used just as much as they use you.

early period: i use them to hold northeast italy up to narbo against the gauls....while also supplying the gauls financially so they dont get overrun
they are also useful if given a province in the southwest as they help by clearing pirates and rival factions. and if macedonia get edgy as they normally do their advanced cohorts are invaluable.

late period: i always give them "buffer" provinces on the borders of my lands during expansion campaigns to repel overambitious barbarians, and then later you can buy them back.

drawbacks: each tribute progressively gets higher, they demand exorbitant recompense for provinces and popularity always fluctuates radically

all in all a fun playing style if you into playing 'world police and ethics force' (lol although what ethics are involved in the slaughter and slavery of half the known world one can only guess).... but if you into rampage burn and pillage it becomes quite time consuming... although it is very fun meddling in politics and the fate of entire cultures.....

I love playing the Senate Campaign as S.P.Q.R. :p Its a lot of fun. I know its unfair and not at all challenging to some(although it is sometimes) but I just love it. I took a fleet once loaded my army and invaded Britain just for the hell of it and then Scandinavia. I only do it when I get sick of playing other nations. lol

Senate campaign was added in 1.6 , just the vanila senate to give you the option of a civil war scenario.

Now start up RS and go to play the Senate Campaign, you will now have an option of playing as S.P.Q.R.

    OR

Download the file that I have attached and copy and paste it to your Data/world/maps/campaign/custom/Senate_Campaign of RS. Remember to copy and replace when asked!
