    Default Personal Annoying AI Moments...

This is not a rant thread, this is not to bash CA or the game in any way, but is to just share experiences of things for the possible entertainment of things. Again, please keep it this way by not bashing CA or the game in any way. Keep it clean.

So basically what I'm talking about, is for you to share little moments you've experienced in the game done by the AI that annoyed you, you thought were funny, or otherwise (but the reverse side is true, please do not go on about "I was so amazed the AI did this, it's so good!" or like-minded things, we're going for funny bloopers not fuel for advertisement).

    So I'll start:

So I'm trying to play through the RTI campaign and in episode one I'm trying to take the last native american village. I get "intercepted" by the garrisoned forces while marching around and about and take the free battle without annoying militia. I get in there, and all they want to do is run around willy-nilly and not engage me. I sit there for almost an hour trying to track the buggers down. Eventually I get to them but by then my men are freaking exhausted and I lose many, many, many men.

Annoyed the crap out of me. -_-

    Your turn.

I was playing a game with Darth mod. Had 1 enemy cavalry unit that had been out raiding. I had no cavalry of my own nearby so sent 4 militia units to kill it. I wanted to make sure it actually died rather than autoresolving and chasing it again. Big mistake. The bloody thing kept running away and it was like trying to herd sheep. Eventually pinned it in a corner long enough to get some shots off and cause them to rout but damn it was annoying.

    1. AI Artillery blowing the crap out of its own men.
    2. My artillery blowing the crap out of my own men!
    3. AI unable to decide to retreat on the battlemap, so i have to chase them everywhere, even artillery men.
    4. Some of the AI army hiding in houses at the totally wrong times when better to stay in open, so half its army is left to fight me.
    5. Some of the AI army using fences at wrong time, leaving rest of army to come face me.
    6. The repetitive cavalry `charge me from behind` every time trick that works only the first time because it NEVER changes that tactic.
    7. It doesn`t know what to do after its first initial attack. It totally has no other moves.
    8. It`s inability to stand and shoot in the style of the 18th century warfare.

Humble... really, that's considered criticizing. I wish I'd never have to say it but there is a forum for that. =/ Plus those aren't moments, they happen all the time.

Not disagreeing, but I'm just saying I want to keep this thread from getting closed down on the basis that it was a bash thread, you know?

I must admit I had a similar event myself. I recently landed my soldiers on Malta and they were immediately interecepted. When the battle loaded the St. John Knights did not attack me, they simply stayed in their position. I thought for a moment that they were just trying to test me for a moment, and I left to go grab a small snack. As soon as I returned I was in the same situation and was forced to attack. I expected the Knights to attack me since they intercepted my army but my expectations were let down!

the interceptor always plays defense Mr. L.E.E. The interceptor puts his army in the path of an enemy army moving somewhere. Therefore they must attack to clear the way.

I'm only going to say this once, but if that was true there is no reason I shouldn't be able to move around them. Intercepting is an offensive action. What you've described is blocking.

    Now back on topic please.

In my current Prussian campaign, I'm unwilling to expand my European Empire any further, so I tried to get used to the Poles declaring war every decade, attacking with multiple full stacks and pillaging everything on their way. My huge economy actually allowed me to create a ring of decently manned forts around my border so that there was no way to enter my provinces without crossing a forts zone of control (total turtling). The Poles should at least bleed a lot for invading me.

Two turns after I finished my last fort, the Poles declared war on me, marched through an area of two overlapping fort z.o.c. and pillaged a mine behind that without me getting the option to intercept.

I was so annoyed and I couldn't figure out how that was possible.

Story from the battlemap: The AI charged my line with Dragoons, dismounted them while in melee combat and thus, even after the Dragoons were all slaughtered, their friggin' horses kept standing there, totally disrupting my formation. I had to reposition a large portion of my army to deal with this.

A siege battle: I placed spikes in front of all the gates to keep the enemy cavalry out. When they gained control of one of the gates, they rushed all their cavalry in while I was grinning at their obvious failure. Their cavalry jumped over/walked through the spikes without getting harmed and slaughtered my men inside the fort.

Another siege battle, I was the attacker: I laughed at the enemy who positioned his cannons inside his fort and kept shooting round shot at his own walls. While I was happily attacking without the fear of getting shot by artillery, I suddenly saw that two of my line regiments suffered severe casualties and were on the rout. After some investigating, I found out they were fighting on the section of the wall the AI kept shooting at, which, of course, eventually collapsed under them.

In the RTI campaign #3 sometimes the Indian Auxillery would fight to the last man. Literally. 1 man would take off running but not routed. Turn fire a shot and start running again. My calvary would catch up to him and appear to be escorting him. Finally killed him but it took awhile.

Another time I garrisoned a unit of miltitia. It was my last unit left, the AI calvary just kept circling the house and got thrashed. The AI infantry danced back and forth without shooting. Finally at the 50 minute mark they charged in and took it, but they lost alot of calvary because of the weird behavior.

I hated the AI trade partners that would let their ports be blockaded and damaged and would finally move a land unit to free up the port, then move it away again. The enemy fleet would (suprise, suprise) blockade and damage the trading port the next turn. Ad infinitum.

I also hated the AI fleets with more holes than a Amsterdam whorehouse, dragging themselves from battle to battle without ever getting repaired. Ever. The same AI fleets would have the oldest, most obsolete ships in them even in turn 199, because the AI would never scrap ships.

I felt it was my duty to sink them and rid the seas of such unsightly, scruffy vessels.

The AI's land movement on the campaign map was sometimes pretty annoying. The Swedes were shockers for moving individual units from Stockholm up around towards Finland by road. Then moving them back. Each turn I'd watch 10-12 units shuffling one way or the other. I even watched stacks of 4 -5 units break down into single units, march hither and thither and then march back.

I felt it was my duty to destoy Sweden just so I wouldn't have to watch this happen turn after turn after turn after turn.
