    Default CTD on the end of the second turn

    I've installed version 2.4 (with the fix) on MTW2 (not Kingdoms) patched to 1.3 and the game crashes on the Independents' second turn. I get a black screen and a sound of a error pop-up, but nothing shows up and I have to press enter to return to the Desktop. I have tested playing with both Sicily and England.

    Update: I think this is not related to the second turn itself, but with laying siege to the Independents. In both occasions, I had one of their cities under siege. I believe they try to sally forth and the game crashes because of that.

    Update 2: I've tested playing with the Khwarezmid (is that how you spell it?) Empire and the game crashes on the Independents' first turn. I was able to get a glimpse of an error pop-up, which stated 'Medieval 2: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit.'

    I've encountered the same problem and have noticed two things. It had occured when I was laying siege to the Independents as well, and usually when I would end the turn, it would happen right when it came to the Independents term... that seems to confirm to me that it has something to do with the Independents.

    I know there is no new information here, but I figured it'd be good to let you know that more than one person is having this problem. If the specs should matter, which I don't see why they should, I'm running 1.3 of M2TW, and using 2.4.1 of The Long Road.

    Brewing in Brooklyn has suggested a way of solving this. During the independents turn bring up the menu and save the game as chrash bypass and then exit the main back to the game by pressing return to game.

    Don't know why it works but I been able to run the game without crashes now.

    But wouldn't that simply forfeit all the AI's actions for the turn? I remember that it was possible to use that method as a way to cheat in RTW -- which is basically the same thing as M2TW.

    The AI movements and so forth were not stopped by me doing this from what I could see.

    Give it a try it made the game playable for me.

    I've gave it a try and it indeed works, with no bad effects on the AI's turn. I guess that cheating that way is only possible in RTW and it doesn't apply to M2TW.

    However, I'm still intrigued about what possibly could be the cause to this problem and why saving the game bypasses it. I'm suspecting the aggressive Independents AI -- which is the slave faction -- may not be pleasing the engine (by the way, I must confess I'm impressed to see that they are even training new troops!). I had tried in RTW to play around modding the slave faction and it always yielded weird results.

    It's strange I know but I'm not complaining as it worked it has allowed to have some truly memorable fights in the game.

    Brewing in Brooklyn has found out that bringing up the main menu during the independants turn is good enough to stop it ctding, you don't need to save.
