    Icon9 Romans agaisnt the world?

    Hey all -

sorry this is more of a rant than a thread but why are the romans having to face of agaisnt every last faction on their own?

dont get me wrong i love a challange but when your facing the combined econmies and man power of the whole of europe and the east it takes a heavy toll. why are other armies not aloud/able to fight each other? - i know romans are tasked with taking eveyr province and creating a realistic mas campaign but bloodie hell it aint half hard to get out of italy at the moment whilst being attacked from 6 sies by the carthaginians, greeks, germans maceadonians, gual & .....senate

    Right, simply.
Diplomacy wouldnt help. If you let nations fight themselves, you would end up fighting 2 or 3 at all. No fun at all. Eventually Greeks can ran over entire map and you end up fighting endless stacks of Greek hoplites. No fun at all. Therefore, you have to kill em all on your own. Good thing is, they wont come over allied border to attack you. Most of the time that is.

no probs your mod your rules - btw are praetorians a senate only option? - as i've been forced to attack Roma as their ships keep blocking of my city ports - atm im using pre imperial troops and i gotta tell ya even with supplying an army at a time they are dishing out severe ammounts of PAIN plus with the greeks and carthaginians nipping at my heals i feel it wont be long until im crushed like a peanut under the hammer of war.

do they become unlockable when you advance to imperial armies and crush the senate?

Yeah that is kinda gay that the senate starts with an invincible horde of g/g futuristic units, but techinically the civil war isnt sposed to start til late-game...

There is sposed to be a naval patch for spqr to keep them from producing ships, but I never could find it. So I improvised by reducing the spqr army to one stack with 0 exp and lvl 1 weapons upgrades. Works well since spqr always blockades me by turn 10 and I have to recall the battered Capuan legion, recruit some mercs and attack Rome at the Tiber where I can slaughter them at the bridge.

Legio, the patch you're looking for is the Unit Addon; it contains the senate fix. It's a little more than half way down in the Storage Room thread.
"With a population of around a million, Rome (in Claudius' time) was a vast city even by modern standards. It is worth pointing out that during the early Renaissance the population of Rome was no more than fifteen thousand-- living amid the ruins of a civilization that dwarfed their own. It was not until the nineteenth century that the population of Rome returned to the levels it had enjoyed under the Caesars. That is eloquent proof of the fact that human history is not a tale of steady progress towards greater knowledge and achievement." Simon Scarrow

It's best to start over and use the units add - on, there is a patch in it that removes the senates ships so that they can't block your ports any more.

Praetorians are available to you when you capture Rome, but it is not wise to try this with pre marius legions because rome will wipe them out easily.

    agreed.

and if you say patch 1.2 removes the ships. think i've found a bug - as i installed the patch and loaded a saved game but ships are still in production. (not mass fleets just singular ships) plus i have access to all auxillia units now it all seems to be working fine.

but i'll try to uninstall and reinstall and see if that helps

plus what modding tools do you guys use - atm im out of action with an injury so i can spare a fare ammount of time with preferences to modding.

so if possible what systems and programmes do you guys use?

no, you need to start a new campiagn for the patch to take affect - it won't have any effect on a campaign in progress

Yeah I really love this mod. I played and beat the unmodded version of the game several times and had no problems moving my armies around the map unchecked. But this mod changed all that. Now I have to think ahead of when and where I can move my army. Its a pain but very rewarding when u succeed.

does annoy me how i can't make any lasting alliances though would be nice to fight side by side with another nation ........before i brutally stab them in the back "mwahahahahah......i mean quite"

I’ve noticed also that scipii take the form of roman rebels and "rebels" take the form of a nation - this interests me - i couldn’t help but notice also that the brutii faction is now nonexistent -

just a thought but has it ever been suggested that the old brutii & scpii factions be reintroduced to control sections of Rome as before? (like in the original game) so they can attack/invade & watch your back but all still fight under the roman banner?

(BTW these questions are not to blatantly annoy you they may of been asked before, but i really do appreciate the answers i receive )

    thank you

For example When you first start the campaign as the roman, you have to fight the gaul from the north, and the Carthage to the south. Now let said you don't want to fight the gaul,to focus your effor to Hannibal,so you give the north side to the Senate ,now you're protect from the gaul, and now focus your army at Hannibal.

Senate produces other units, they can get imperial cohorts without needing you to get the reforms. And for example, Macedon, Egypt, Pontus, Britannia, etc dont attack you until you have the land and control in Greece, Gaul, Germany next to them. That's that the whole buffer means.
