    Default randomly dying men?

i was recently out crushing a pope or two and attacked one of their armies up a gentle hill. So i set up my men in position clicked start battle, and started to march up the slope towards the enemy. however after about 5 seconds of marching about 30 of my soldiers keeled over and died, without being hit b anything! Strangely they were out of crossbow range(which wouldnt have had time to load yet) but no they just died?

Has anyone else found this to be a problem? This is the first time its happened to me, its not absoloutely awful(i mean whats 30 men in an army of 1800) but i think its kind of strange!

if you mean was my line hit by a cavalry charge then no, these men died right along the line, and from the back rank to the front. although i was only foot soldiers.

however i have had a thought, maybe it was the holy power of the pope that struck my men down with divine wrath!

A ballista bolt perhaps? When not on fire they are rather hard to spot, and they tend to take down several men in a row.
Thats pretty much the only reason I can think off.
Or it might just be the wrath of god for attacking the pope...

no i dont think it was any sort of projectile because they just died about 5 seconds of me starting the battle. they did have some pavise crossbowmen, but no siege weapons, but either way they wouldnt of had time to reload and fire in that amount of time.

Well, i experienced almost the same problem:
Playing as the mongols I had a large army of mercs to open the gates for my mongol horde (reinf). But when my mongols entered the battle they dies like flies, actually most of them dies outside the red line!
Noone of them was ever close to engange in the battle, because i had underestimated my cannonfoder, they actually managed to destroy the garision themselvs^^
    Heres a pic:

Notice the numbers of the mongol soldiers on the unit cards is lower that on the Battle statitics.
Fortunatly my soldiers returned to full numbers after the battle-.-

im not sure if these men were healed at the end of the battle i was thinking it might be something to do with the hill they were on, fumle did your men have to enter the battlefield on a slope?

Yeah, there was some hills on the area they entered from, but this battle is about a month old so i can't remebery it very well, any longer.

Most likely they couldn't enter at all. I saw this happen quite often (about six times in all my epic battles) and it's very anoying. Although most of time I found my army entering the battlefield from a huge rock, they die at start of the battle but return afterwards. Doesn't solve the Pope issue, though.

I think its definetly something to do with the terrain. I had a similar problem once when there was a lake in the middle of the battlefield. Instead of marching round it when I told my troops to attack, they marched right into it and, eh, drowned This game has so many funny glitches!
