Icon9 Omg! What have I done!!?

I just had to mess it up!
Maybe, this is not where I should post this…but here it goes:
I have been playing KGCM for some time now, and after having a wonderful time playing the TO I decided it was time to move on. I wanted to try one of the Italian states and was really, really looking forward to it.

Then I made a fatal mistake. I wanted to have secondary fire for archers and artillery so I had a look around and found the following:

“All you need to do is unpack the Crusades campaign, and you don't need to even edit anythink. Note when you unpack the main game or any of the Kingdoms campaigns you must delete 2 files in the data folder you unpacked, or the game will crash when you load a battle. Delete the descr_geography_new.db and descr_geography_new.txt. Go to SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\crusades\data folder and copy the descr_projectile.txt. Now go to SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\kingdoms_grand_campaign_mod\data. And paste it into my mods data folder.”
Ok, so off I went to tools, unpack all according to some other instructions, and started unpacking. Now, I can’t find the unpacked file/s and definitely not the famous descr_geography_new.db and descr_geography_new.txt, but oh yes, I get the crashes when I enter battle!
Maybe I should add that I also tried to get rid of the garrison script more or less at the same time and that I’m a bit daft when it comes to computers, well in general if you like.
Since it was only a matter of time before the TO would be dominating the world I decided (and here it comes) to re-install the whole game. I did this, twice. I used the normal procedure and manually got rid of the rest of the files, or so I thought. I emptied the trash and even restarted the cpu, and then installed a fresh copy of MTW2 and Kingdoms, no mods, no nothing . Pfffffff! What hit me first was that the Continue Campaign option was available. For some reason I can continue my first campaign with England. Doing that and entering battle, I get the same crash as before. So I’ve gone from the best gaming experience ever to a nightmare.
Yes, I play on Vista (64) and obviously there are some files that have not been deleted. Saved games folder? I’ve tried searching for it. But no luck. Perhaps I’ll just have a go with the recovery disc and leave you lot alone.
As I said, I’m not very good with computers and I would really appreciate some help because, I swear to anything you want, I’m getting depressed. Thanks!

Revert the computer back to a date where you haven't edited the files?

    EDIT: Here's how to

"On the start menu, go to 'Accessories' and then go into 'system tools'

The 'system restore' function is usually at the bottom of the list.

The 'system restore' function will take your computer back to what it was like yesterday (or whenever you last did something to your system)

The process is fully reversible in case you change your mind

Any files (eg. word documents) will not be changed, only the system"

With vista do a search for descr_geography new and when it fails (and it will as there in a hidden file when using vista) then do an advanced search with seacrh everywhere option ticked it will then find them delete now and enjoy I know your pain i am a vista user but the difference is i turned UAC( user account control ) off and then installed the med2 that way it installs it like xp does with everything in one easy place to find much easier to mod that way

Un installing wont fix as this doesnt touch the hidden files which these files are in so when ever you re install the files are there and the game will crash .

Alright! Ok, so that's that. At least I got vanilla back on its feet. Thanks a lot!

Now let's see if I can get KGCM working again. I think I'll just leave the secondary fire and garrison scripts the way they were. Thanks again!

FortressOfRain's KGCME submod restores secondary fire for elite archers if you're still interested. I believe he's currently updating it to be compatible with the latest patch.

    Sweet.

I might check it out when I'm done with my new campaign.

    Cheers

Question what compatability do you need to return secondary fire to archers catapults etc . Answer none 0 zero zip ziltch nada . All you need to do is take the descr_projectile.txt from the crusades game(eg the kingdoms expansion ) and put it in the KGCM data file presto no compatability needed it IS COMPATABLE.

And how would you restore fire for only seige engines, leaving the fire as it is for archers?
