I just had to mess it up!
Maybe, this is not where I should post this…but here it goes:
I have been playing KGCM for some time now, and after having a wonderful time playing the TO I decided it was time to move on. I wanted to try one of the Italian states and was really, really looking forward to it.
Then I made a fatal mistake. I wanted to have secondary fire for archers and artillery so I had a look around and found the following:
“All you need to do is unpack the Crusades campaign, and you don't need to even edit anythink. Note when you unpack the main game or any of the Kingdoms campaigns you must delete 2 files in the data folder you unpacked, or the game will crash when you load a battle. Delete the descr_geography_new.db and descr_geography_new.txt. Go to SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\crusades\data folder and copy the descr_projectile.txt. Now go to SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\kingdoms_grand_campaign_mod\data. And paste it into my mods data folder.”
Ok, so off I went to tools, unpack all according to some other instructions, and started unpacking. Now, I can’t find the unpacked file/s and definitely not the famous descr_geography_new.db and descr_geography_new.txt, but oh yes, I get the crashes when I enter battle!
Maybe I should add that I also tried to get rid of the garrison script more or less at the same time and that I’m a bit daft when it comes to computers, well in general if you like.
Since it was only a matter of time before the TO would be dominating the world I decided (and here it comes) to re-install the whole game. I did this, twice. I used the normal procedure and manually got rid of the rest of the files, or so I thought. I emptied the trash and even restarted the cpu, and then installed a fresh copy of MTW2 and Kingdoms, no mods, no nothing . Pfffffff! What hit me first was that the Continue Campaign option was available. For some reason I can continue my first campaign with England. Doing that and entering battle, I get the same crash as before. So I’ve gone from the best gaming experience ever to a nightmare.
Yes, I play on Vista (64) and obviously there are some files that have not been deleted. Saved games folder? I’ve tried searching for it. But no luck. Perhaps I’ll just have a go with the recovery disc and leave you lot alone.
As I said, I’m not very good with computers and I would really appreciate some help because, I swear to anything you want, I’m getting depressed. Thanks!
