    Default Question about graphics cards

Hi! First of all thank you to all of those who help people like me who know little about computers and stuff... just about enough to keep them running

    I've got a PC with a ASUS p5kc motherboard, Intel E6850 processor, Nvidia 8800gt and 3,2GB RAM
I want to buy an ATI HD5850 card and was wondering if it will work on my computer.

I also wanted at the same time put the 8800gt card on another computer and remove the old one. This one: HP Pavilion A6641 chipset g33, nvidia 9500gs, Intel® Core™2 Quad Q8200, 3GB RAM

Is all of this possible? thanks a lot!

    First thing is first.

Have you got a PCI-E 2.0 Graphics slot ? and do you have 2 six pin connectors with your psu ?

    If yes

    Then OFC you can .......

The only thing you want to worry about is size make sure you measure your case.

500+ WAT psu will be needed for the 5800 series cards to.

PCI Express x16 slot frequency, chipset voltage.

Rong you can actually use the ati 5850 on this board.

As it says your board has pci-e x16.

I hope this helps so in the simple way yes your motherboard can slot this beast in her just fine just make sure thiers enough room mate.

The blue slot is where you need to fit the ati 5850 mate.

Make sure your Power Unit has 2 six pin connectors.

If you buy a new graphics card it will come with the connectors so not to worry.

First off i dont think your psu will be abale to handle the ati 5850 im not sure on it it says 500+ on the box of the 5800 cards .

Yes what ipwnyurmam lol rofl said.

If you buy a new graphics card you will get 2 of these anyway.

And you seem a little confused on the matter mate i would go for a psu about 550+.

If you dont know how to install a psu thiers plenty of guides over youtube.

I would not run a 5850 off of that PSU, you need to upgrade that bad boy as well. I'd suggest this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371015 or this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139004

The 500w recommendation leaves you with around 75w on most dual/quad configs. That PC could conceivably draw under 400w. It would be pretty close, and I would really only advise trying anyhow if it were a top quality manufacturer. But aside from that, I would be shocked if it had two six pins.

Then I guess I'll have to buy a new psu. thanks to you all! and start learning how to install it... I'll check installing guides on the internet.

Edit: sorry for the maybe stupid question but my current psu has got the fan at the back. Those I need to get have got it underneath. Does it matter?

Well I guess so because this fan will blow the generated heat over your motherboard, straining the CPU cooler even further. So this could be a problem if you haven't got any extra fans. Best is to keep on searching for now and find one with the fan at the backside.

I think it's me who got it wrong... this one suggested by Roman_Man#3 is ok, isn't it?

    Edit:
Ok. I've made my choice. What do you think? I think everything is correct regarding the connections needed.

    No problem at all.

Yep it's perfect and it should work fine but if you're only planning on upgrading with ATI cards you also could chose one of these. The reason they're special is that they've been approved by ATI meaning that they can run the ATI 5850. And some could also have the correct plugs, sparing you the use of an adapter. Not sure on that one though.

    Edit: (Thanks to Almogaver )

Yep they seem fine! And the PSU even has the correct pins! This should keep you gaming till the armageddon at 2012.

I'd go with this PSU over the truepower 750. http://www.pccomponentes.com/CORSAIR_TX650_650W.html You don't need 750w, and 650 is enough, not to mention 30euros cheaper. Its not modular though, thats the only downside, but modular is more a bonus, not really a necessary feature.

Hi! I'm here again. I have a tiny problem with the size of the ATI HD5850. From what I've seen it measures 25.7cm (from what I've googled). My maximum space is 27cm (at most!). And I think it's too tight. I now have a 8800gt which measures 23cm and I only have 4cm more space.

So I thought I'd go with either this card:
    http://www.pccomponentes.com/ASUS_RA...STORMRISE.html
    or this one
    http://www.pccomponentes.com/ASUS_GE...1GB_GDDR3.html

What do you think about my space left in the case and which card do you think is better?

    Thanks!

Edit: oh! this psu http://www.pccomponentes.com/CORSAIR_VX550_550W.html would be enough for the above mentioned cards. Am I right?

As for size, the 5750 is like half the length of that 5850, so it will fit. However, I do not suggest the 5750 in terms of bang for your buck. I'd go with a 5770

also, for now, ati cards are the best in terms of price for the performance. I don't know a whole lot about gpus, but I'm sure someone around here does.
