Why not? If mr. Bush wants it, there is nothing stopping him really; especially as it givces his successor a simple platform to get elected on, "We will reverse the mstakes of previous administrations"!
A thing called congress that has to approve funding of it? Bush cant run again but each and every one of those Senators and congressmen DO lets say for insanity sake Bush was pondering this, do you think Republicans would risk THEIR jobs to back a President who is gone at the end of his term?

Chavez is simply feeding the fires because it appeals to an audience, we are his boogyman so he can use us. Alot like people say Bush does with terrorism Chavez is doing the EXACT same thing but with the US as the boogyman.

Second of all, all of you need to watch the documentary The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. Its banned in america, but you can still get it. If your interested pm me and I'll try to provide you with the info. Its a must see, especialy for those who think Chavez is anything but one of the most honest politicians around, seriously the guy is as honest as they come, he says whats on his mind and is trying to get his country up on its feet.
The documentary is not banned in the US, dunno why people alway claim some movie is 'banned' in the US. Unless you are dealing with an illegal subject matter nothing is 'banned' here and it is borderline propaganda piece.

Well, maybe you'd like to explain to me why everyone who has it has had to get it from outside the US?

Things get "banned" all the time, doesnt have to be illegal subject matter, it also doesnt mean you'll go to prison for having it. Countless books get "banned" from book shelves etc...

Borderline propaganda? By that standard, every type of media source in the world is "borderline propaganda". All it does is show what happened.

As far as Chavez being a "maniac" etc... I really would like to know what poeple are basing this on?

I guess, raising oil prices so that you can help your country of which 80% of the people live below the poverty line is pretty maniacal. Encouraging his people to learn about their constitution and educate themselves sounds pretty crazy too. Having a TV show where people can call in and ask questions about politics etc..., collecting notes and letters from people who have basic needs like repairs to their tin shack, reading and responding to everyone they can. Oh yeah hes a ****ing madman alright.

And LOL at Chavez being afraid of democracy, Chavez does things more democratically than the US.

Not being readily avaiable in the US doesnt make it 'banned', 1970s horror movies are tough to find in the US too, they are low profit margin items. On top of it documentaries generally dont sell well combine that with lack of interest (assumption but a safe one) in the subject amoung americans and you have the reasons why. As I said its a myth that movies are somehow 'banned' in the US.

Banned in the US implies the US goverment has forbidden it which is not only unconstitutional but doesnt happen now if you want to talk about school board X banning book Y from its libaries sure that does happen because its a local level defining local taste/decency though even that is often challenged.

Doing so in a way that hurts those that run/work in the industry without their input, helping only those that generally support his policy (gee and George Bush gets alot of heat for if you arent with us you are against us). Having a show where people can call in and ask questions? Yeah Im sure its not screened! Imagine GWB getting congress to pass a law allowing him to rule by decree for 1 year and enacting laws without debate, while Chavez might not be the socialist menace some people protray him as he isnt the angel some think he is either.

As you said its a myth? wow how convincing. Yet everyone who has it has had to order through email. As far as I know its not even available on websites and such. Maybe it isnt "banned" per se but it isnt being produced in the US, and even through outside sources it just comes as burned dvd.

When I mentioned books, I was talking about book stores, not parents being upset about what their kids can get at their school library. I'm talking about books like In the Spirit of Crazy Horse which was not allowed to be sold on shelves for 9 years. The only way you could get it is if you asked for it, it was not allowed on the shelf.

Well, Chavez isnt a leader of the most powerful nation on the planet, hes the leader of a bunch of people living in poverty while a minority get rich off of oil money. If it hurts those that work in the industry maybe they should buy their oil from someone else. Or hey maybe they should show some god damn empathy for a nation where 80% of the population lives below the poverty line.

As far as the show, even if it is screened, who cares? What does that have to do with it? His call in show isnt there to argue with people, its to help those who are having problems and dont know their rights or just dont know where to go for help. A vast majority of people there can barely even read, hes trying to change these things.

Of course he isnt an angel, no person is, especialy not a politician. But I think he has his peoples lives at heart and that is what a good leader is supposed to be like. Overall he is a good man, and its quite obvious after seeing The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.

Oh btw, dont know if anyone has heard anything about this, but I found it pretty interesting

After Hurricane Katrina battered the US South, knocking out oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, and annihilating New Orleans, Venezuela was the first country moved to support their "North American brothers". Chávez offered to provide food, water, and extra oil to the US to help relieve them after the disaster. He has offered up to sell as much as 66,000 barrels of heating fuel to poor communities who were hit by the hurricane, and freely offered mobile hospital units, medical specialists, and power generators.

YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!! That is the last straw Excalibur I have taken all of you that I can bear. Do you know anything about the Venezuelan President? Not exactly the most honest man on Earth and if U.S., U.K, Russian, Isreali, German, Japanese, and Italian Inteligence were incorrect on Iraq having weapons of mass desrtuction, you really think this man has better intelligence? To invade Iraq both times there were major troop build ups in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, tell me now Mr. America Hater, what troops do we have to send there and where are they now? Why don't you worry about your own country because as far as I know there is no perfect country on Earth, and for you TWC moderators do not dare tell me this is flaming.

While I see no flaming,I'm not the eye of the beholder, and I wouldn't provoque our moderators...

    On topic now:
No one said the US is invading Venezuela. This and other contigency plans are abundant in the pentagon and NSA. But why leak it now?(oil prices rising and all)

Why leak it just one month after the Pat Robertson debacle?

"I didn't say 'assassination.' I said our special forces should 'take him out.' And 'take him out' can be a number of things, including kidnapping; there are a number of ways to take out a dictator from power besides killing him. I was misinterpreted by the AP [Associated Press], but that happens all the time," Robertson said. (Watch video)

The controversy began Monday when Robertson called Chavez "a terrific danger" bent on exporting Communism and Islamic extremism across the Americas. (Full story)

"If he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think we really ought to go ahead and do it," said Robertson Monday. "It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war." (Watch Robertson's comments)

"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," he said. "We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."
    From CNN

    Take Out

    1 To assassinate.
    2 To kidnap.
    3 To date, romantically.

Over the last months, Pat Robertson has been asking his supporters to have a kind of faith-based interpretation of his recent comments suggesting that the American government should send agents to murder Hugo Chavez, the president of Venezuela. Pat Robertson said of Chavez, on his Christian evangelical television show The 700 Club, that, "If he thinks we’re trying to assassinate him, I think we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war, and I don't think any oil shipments will stop."

To the eye of someone who is not a member of The 700 Club, that statement looks pretty straightforward. But, 700 Club members have faith that Pat Robertson really meant something else. Robertson has defended himself by saying, "I didn’t say ‘assassination'." Well, strictly speaking, that's true. Robertson said "assassinate", not "assassination." One word is a verb, or a command. The other word is a noun. Big difference.

But Pat Robertson's defense has a lot more substance to it than grammatical technicalities. Robertson also says, "I said, ‘Our special forces should take him out.’ ’Take him out’ can be a number of things including kidnapping. There are a number of ways to ‘take out’ a dictator from power besides killing him. I was misinterpreted." Poor, suffering Pat Robertson, the victim, like so many other radical right wing evangelicals, of vicious misinterpretation.

So, if we take Pat Robertson at his word, whatever could it mean that he wants to "take out" Hugo Chavez? Well, assassination is a possibility. Then Pat Robertson also says that "take out" could mean that he wants to kidnap President Chavez.

Mr. Robertson's defensive evasions suggest a third explanation, however. I think that Pat Robertson has a little romantic crush on Hugo Chavez. I think that Mr. Robertson wants to take out Mr. Chavez - on a date. Just imagine, a table for two, a bottle of wine under candlelight, and Pat looks Hugo in the eye and says those three little words that he has been waiting years to say: "In Jesus name"… and then Pat squints his eyes the way he does so often during the faith healing segment of his TV show, and heals that small erectile dysfunction that Hugo Chavez has been suffering from.

Would you like a little cheese with that whine?

Anyway, if it is going to happen then yay! Let's divert even more attention (and billions of dollars) away from fixing New Orleans.

Given the US' track record over the last 20 odd years, he has every right to be concerned. Nothing to do with GWB, to be honest. America is developing a nasty habit...

I guess that in the Pentagon drawers there are plans to invade every other country, except possibly Canada. In my mind this could be an intentional leak, just to caution Chavez, It could easily be Chavez crying wolf, or it could be a very real leak of a very real plan. And if you think that the US needs excuses to invade think again.

    Word.

    except possibly Canada.

I don't really think it's possible... even if Mr. Bush wanted for it to happen.

No one in their right mind would start another war when a quagmire such as Iraq is taking place at this moment. Furthermore, the disaster in New Orleans PROVES that America's forces are overextended and undersupplied. Another invasion would take billions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of soldiers. Chavists aren't exactly the most peaceful of people either (try staying a week in Caracas)... It would take the consent of the Congress for the country to go to a long-term war against Venezuela as well, and that is nearly impossible, especially given the political antagonisms against Iraq at this present moment.

Or it could be that Chavez is an Attention ***** and a nutjob.
    I third the statement.
