    In ETW, but I think in NTW it will be the same, when the standart bearer dies , the flag disapears, it's not on the ground.
    The logic would be that an other soldier of his regiment takes it, the flag was so important for the unit.
    Fight for flags would be a good thing too, enemies trying to take them and standart bearer trying to keep them.
    It could, in the game, add medals, achievments or experience for the unit. Stealing a enemy flag was considered as an heroic action.

    That always bothered me in ETW, that the flags disappeared. I always wanted to see someone else pick it up. Fighting over flags would be nice but I'd rather see the ragtag survivors escaping with the flag, a la Zulu Dawn

    Didn't the SPQR mod have a feature, where if the Eagle carried by the 1st Cohort was captured, then you were told where it was taken. It made the game more involving.
    If it was this particular mod and my memory serves me well, the Germans tribes borrowed one of my Eagles, and I had to arrange a visit to 'ask' for it back.

    Certainly something more involving around the standards would be good. If NTW had a feature durring a fight where the enemies colours could be 'had' it would be a nice piece of animation to watch, with perphaps a morale drop to the unit in disgrace?

    I remember reading about one of the Marmelukes from the French Imperial Guard cav, came galloping up to Nappy during a battle and threw an enemy standard at his feet, then returned to the fray and came back with another captured colour, Napoleon tried to have him stopped but he went off again, and wasn't seen again, no such thing as third time lucky for him!

    I think that feature was already in RTW vanilla.

    No, to the best of my knoweldge, it was not. And it was certainly not a diplomacy option the way it was in SPQR.

    Not sure if it was Barbarian Invasion, though I am pretty sure it was not.

    The SPQR mod has that feature because it is a part of the vanilla coding (it's certainly present in RTR and we've done nothing specific to include it). I think it is linked, for the Roman faction, to the "Eagle inspires surrounding units" attribute, which is carried by the Triarii and 1st Cohorts. If one of those units gets wiped out in battle, then I think that you will win or lose an eagle, depending on which side you're playing.

    You are kinda right panzerschreck, I collected knights when I was 12 or so. from a german brand(those handpainted things). at a medieval event I bought this flagbearer on a horse, the man from the shop told me that when the flag was dropped, it had to be picked up again because if it was not up in the air it ment that the soldiers had to route.

    EDIT: I found a photo of the flagbearer .

    Maybe instead of picking up flags then we should just rout our units when the standard is dropped

    That would be awesome to see soldiers fighting over the flags, even using the pointy end if the need arises to quash any aggression towards the flag bearer. Prehaps stealing an enemy flag with a unit could give it an experience bonus, whereas a unit which lost it flag in battle would be shamed.

    Capture the flag would be nice.

    Unit get a moral boost until end of battle, if capture an enemies flag and +1 experience, with the points they need to reach this level. Maybe after 5 captured flags the get in the name "veterans" and get a special boost.

    But for the first, the formations must be change. In my battles, there is a wonder if an officer, drummer or flagberear survive.

    A formation should looks similar this:

    NCO XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX NCO
    ........ XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    ........ XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    ......................... D. F. Of. Fb.

    X= Trooper
    NCO= Non commissioned officers
    D= Drummer
    F= Fifer
    Of= Officer
    Fb= Flagberear

    To be honest, I need to give CA a little slack on this one. The amount of scripting/programming and animation that would have to go into that, and given the possible bugs that it may invariably bring with it, I doubt would be worth the rather minor immersion factor that it would bring.

    Besides, let's face it, in important battles, we usually are too zoomed out to notice it anyway. So while it would be nice, I think that that should definitely be a 'spare time thing' for CA.

    Sorry, but that just isn't/shouldn'y be on the priorities list.

    EDIT!

    Oh my God, that's right! SPQR was my favorite mod, and yes, you're right, cohorts had 'eagles!'

    If a mod can do it, I really think CA should be able to implement it!
