This is an idea that i just thought of. I know it won't be implemented in NTW but i hope CA read this and think about it for their next game.

Right now, I cannot guess properly what type of terrain I am going to get before a battle. Many times it does not fit my needs and is useless. Terrain usually decided the battle and made a possible defeat into a glorious victory. So I propose that CA allow the defender to choose which type of terrain he will fight in before the battle begins. Such options should include (apart from rivers and sieges):

    • Large Area (large plains for large armies and cavalry with possible hills, towns where large maneuverability of armies is possible)
    • Small Area (small plains and forests, hills or large mountains where only small maneuverability is possible and a small army can hold off and possibly even defeat a much larger army),
    • Ambush ( a small road with little maneuverability space, dense forests and tall grass for ambush locations. The ambushed army cannot deploy).

Of course, if there aren’t any mountains nearby then obviously the defender won’t get mountains but might get forests and hills which could achieve the same effect of the small area, though maybe not as effective.
I and surely other players want to be able to choose and see which terrain they are going to battle in before the battle commenced. This gives you more control over the game and reduces frustration.

    What are everybody's thoughts?

Just like the elephant animation, this Carthage scenario is actually in the game, it just has a small percantage factor for showing up, that's all...

in M2TW the battle map was actually like the campaign map
if your army was attacked on the campaign map and stood on a hill on this map, it would also stand on a hill on the battle map

Basically, they have to revert to MTW2.

In NTW, it will show a battle map and deployment areas during loading screen! And they have promised, what it looks like on the campaign, thats what it will be like on the battle map!

I think we should be able to decide whetner or not we should fight on snow, earth, water or sand whenever we choose.

After all, it makes perfect sense that generals decide what material the ground they're fighting on is made of.

I agree. I've always hated the idea of not being able to scan the battlefield before attacking and/or viewing the battlefield before you let your army stay in a certain area. Too many times I've put my army in what I think is the top of the hill and low and behold i'm on the back side of said hill. Why wouldn't my army start at the top if I was there first.

Also the weather. I liked in Rome where you could wait to start battle (3 times I think) till you got the weather you liked before initiating an attack. What general in their right mind would attack in the rain or bad weather unless absolutely having too. Especially with muskets.
