Unable to select Campaign in single player
I just installed the mod switch version of Rome Total Realism v 1.9 and have an issue when going into single player. I cannot select anything under Campaign, I click it and it says please select an option. If I exit the game it gives the following error.
script error in RTRPE/data/world/campaign/imperial_campaign/desc_strat.txt, at line 31, column 1
expected start date of campaign or battle
I have tried changing the dates and copying an older version of the desc_strat file over to no avail. Any ideas on how to fix this? I am sorry if this has ben asked before, I could not find it listed.

Re: Unable to select Campaign in single player
Your game is not patched to v1.5(for RTW) or v1.6 for BI(if you try to play with the BI executable).

I'm having the same problem, but it's not a patching issue I don't think since I bought the Gold edition, any thoughts?

And have you checked the version yourself? Go to Options in game and you`ll see the version in the upper right corner.

Re: Unable to select Campaign in single player
It says 1.3 in the options section of RTR, but when I try to download 1.5 it says that the patch is not compatible with Gold version. Is there a special patch for Gold version?, because most forums say Gold version is automatically patched to 1.6.

Re: Unable to select Campaign in single player
Depends on which gold version you have. Normally it should be. But there were issues with some packages from what people reported. The first gold versions apparently came with rtw and bi on separate discs and people say that while rtw was indeed patched to v1.5, bi was actually v1.4 and when installed it was downgrading rtw to v1.3. This was reported by Marcus Camillus.
And come to think of it I`ve also seen this reported:

MC was able to solve his problem by installing the BI v1.6 patch(and not the RTW v1.5 patch). Try doing the same and see if you have better luck than the guy from the last link.

Re: Unable to select Campaign in single player
Willowran: On Windows7 the map.rwm files are not created in the real Program Files directory but in your home directory (something like /Users/<user>/AppData/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files/...). I'm not sure if it does that only for limited accounts but also for administrative accounts but try to search for map.rwm on the whole disk not just in the game folder and remove them all.
BTW, I get the same error with unable to start the campaign "Select an item from the list" but I get it _only_ if I use the mod switch version, a limited user account _and_ run the BI engine (if I run as an administrative account it works, if I run with the Rome.exe engine it works, if I run the non-modswitch version it works either way). My game version however comes from the Total War: Eras collection so I have the single DVD Rome TW Gold version that installs both Rome and BI at the same time, fully updated so I don't think in my case it's a version problem. Someone here reported an error from a log message, how can I get these logs as I want to debug the issue further? Thanks!
