Not much new in terms of NTW if you've read the posts by the people there, but it was interesting to hear his answers to general questions about the series.

How does that affect gameplay? Does it make their battles harder or modify their morale? Or is it just eye candy?
The extra development time will allow us to finalize and polish Empire, making it the most accomplished and epic of the Total War series." said Kieran Brigden, Studio Communications Manager at The Creative Assembly. "There is a great deal of anticipation around Empire: Total War and we want to ensure that it is the benchmark for strategy games upon its release.

uuh probably eye candy, no gameplay effecting stuff.
the gameplay effect I liked most in the video is that soldiers miss aim more if there is smoke between them and the enemy, though I already knew that...

No idea. Maybe shoeless soldiers walk slower in battle and suffer higher attrition (winter only). On a plus, they don't rout as quickly in battle as they can't run fast without shoes.

Hmm..Kieran says that 'deformed terrain' gives us an indication of what the Total War series will cover next...maybe American Civil War?

Mm yea. I wouldn't doubt on an ACW expansion coming out, sort of like the Warpath campaign for Empire. I'd wager some other expansions would also be included, adding other 19th-century war scenarios.

If the deformed terrain bit is true, then that sounds like more modern artillary, say FrancoPrussian, or more likely WW1, now that one did involve deformed terrain, a sea of mud, craters, and shredded trees!

Sounds like it could sell well enough, and not require too much work. I wouldn't be interested in it myself, tho.. I'd rather they expanded the NTW time period and world map, making a sort of ETW/NTW hybrid that takes us further into the 19th century.. Kieran did suggest that expanding the map is a possibility, tho he also said CA is more likely to work with more detailed, smaller maps. Contradictory, I know.
